Ranveer Singh issues stern warning after viral deepfake scandal

Ranveer Singh became the center of controversy when a deepfake video featuring him endorsing a political party went viral. The AI-generated clip manipulated footage from Ranveer's recent visit to Varanasi, where he shared his spiritual experiences in the city.

Reacting to the viral video on social media platform X, Ranveer warned his followers to beware of deepfake technology, writing, 

"Deepfake se bacho dostonnnn (Beware of deepfake, friends)."

Ranveer Singh, accompanied by actress Kriti Sanon, had visited Varanasi for a fashion show. During their visit, the actors explored the spiritual sites of the city, including the Vishwanath temple. However, footage from Ranveer's commentary on his visit was manipulated to falsely depict him endorsing a political party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

This incident echoes similar instances involving other Bollywood celebrities, such as Aamir Khan, who fell victim to deepfake technology. Aamir Khan had previously filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell of Mumbai Police after a deepfake video purportedly promoting a political party circulated online. The video, created using AI technology, dated back to Khan's tenure as the host of the show 'Satyameva Jayate' nearly a decade ago.

Amidst the controversy, Ranveer Singh continues to focus on his professional endeavors. His latest project, 'Rocky Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,' marked his most recent on-screen appearance. Next, he is set to step into the iconic role of 'Don,' following in the footsteps of legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. The film, directed by Farhan Akhtar, stars Kiara Advani as the leading lady.
