Rakul Preet Singh’s Old Answer on Son’s Sexuality Goes Viral Again

Rakul Preet Singh started her journey in the entertainment world with the Miss India pageant back in 2011. Though she didn’t win the crown, her appearance is still remembered—especially one bold moment that’s now making rounds on social media again.

During the pageant, actor Fardeen Khan, who was one of the judges, asked Rakul a tough and sensitive question. He said, “Take a deep breath, this is not the easiest question. If you found out your son is gay, what would be your reaction?” At first, Rakul looked a bit nervous. But she quickly composed herself and gave an answer that continues to surprise the internet today.

Rakul replied, “Well, honestly, if I found out that my son was gay, I would be shocked. I would probably slap him. But then later, I feel choosing your sexuality is one’s own decision, and if he wants to go ahead with that, I have no problems. As far as I am concerned, I prefer to be straight."

The clip has now resurfaced on Reddit, and netizens are sharing mixed reactions. A few users were clearly upset. One comment read, “Wtf was that answer? 💀 And also, why would you say I prefer to be straight? 🌚” Another person wrote, “Her answer consists of abuse and ignorance. Not a good look. Hope she has grown." A user also pointed out, “Wait, what? Being straight or gay isn’t about preference; it’s not something you just choose. It doesn’t work like that yaar!!”

At the same time, some people came in support of Rakul. One Redditor wrote, “Avg Indian mom would react like that.” Another added, “She was honest and non-diplomatic.” Someone else also commented, “She didn’t lie though.”
