Ajay Devgn is ready to return as the fearless IRS officer Amay Patnaik in Raid 2, the much-awaited sequel to his 2018 hit Raid. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, this upcoming crime-thriller has already generated excitement among fans after the trailer received a positive response. But what’s next after Raid 2? Is Raid 3 in the pipeline?
In a recent chat with Bollywood Hungama, director Raj Kumar Gupta responded to this very question with a smile. He said, "Let's release Raid 2 first." The director believes in taking one step at a time. He explained that it’s important for a filmmaker to focus on giving their film a timely release and then wait for the audience’s reaction.
Speaking about the making of Raid 2, Gupta revealed that the film took two and a half years of hard work. "We wrote this film for one and a half years, though it's based on a real-life story. This time, we have tried to bring in a lot of fictional elements as well," he shared. Clearly, the director has put a lot of effort into blending fact with fiction to give the audience an engaging experience.
As for Raid 3, Gupta mentioned that he already has some scripts in hand. However, he will only make a decision after Raid 2 hits the theatres. He added, "You may want to make a film on a particular script, but you'll end up doing something else." According to him, several things must align before a project moves forward.
For those who don’t remember, Raid was a gripping crime drama featuring Ajay Devgn, Ileana D’Cruz, and Saurabh Shukla. In Raid 2, Riteish Deshmukh steps in as the villain, and Vaani Kapoor replaces Ileana as Amay’s wife. Vaani recently said there’s no competition with Ileana and they share a good bond off-screen. Ajay also commented, saying, "Sean Connery is not the only James Bond. It's the character you follow, and then new people keep coming in."
