In a surprising turn of events, the upcoming mythological drama Kannappa has been hit by a security issue involving the loss of crucial footage. The film, headlined by Vishnu Manchu and scheduled for release on June 27, 2025, is currently under police scrutiny after a hard drive containing essential visual content disappeared under unclear circumstances.

The situation unfolded when a data package from HIVE, a visual effects studio based in Mumbai, reached the Chennai production office, Four Frames. Instead of being submitted through an official channel, the drive was passed to an individual named Charita by a staff member identified as Raghu. Raghu has not been seen since.

Executive producer Vijay Kumar has approached authorities, alleging that a deliberate effort is being made to compromise the project. He suspects involvement of individuals with influential backgrounds and has lodged a formal complaint. Law enforcement has initiated a probe to locate both Raghu and the missing hard drive, as well as to determine whether the act was intentional or opportunistic.

This setback arrives at a time when the film’s marketing and publicity efforts are intensifying. Despite the development, the team continues to push forward with promotions and logistical planning for the multilingual launch. Kannappa is expected to hit theatres in multiple languages, widening its reach across different regions.

The cast features several big names from across Indian cinema, which has raised the project’s visibility and anticipation. As post-production progresses, the potential loss of vital footage has brought up concerns around content safety and digital asset management in large-scale productions.

Authorities are following leads to determine the motive behind the missing data. Whether it was part of a larger scheme or an internal miscommunication remains to be seen. For now, the makers are pressing on while keeping a close eye on the ongoing investigation, hoping the missing material is retrieved before any lasting damage is done to the project.
