Mannara Chopra’s father passes away at 72, funeral to be held in Mumbai

Mannara Chopra is mourning the loss of her father, Advocate Raman Rai Handa, who passed away on June 16 in Mumbai at the age of 72. He was also the paternal uncle of Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra. The family announced the news through an official statement shared on Mannara’s Instagram Stories.

The family’s message read, “With profound grief and sorrow we inform the sad demise of our loving father who left us for his heavenly abode on 16/06/2025. He was the pillar of strength for our family."

Raman Rai Handa had been reportedly unwell for a few days. He was in Mumbai with his wife Kamini Chopra Handa and daughters Mannara and Mitali during his final days. The last rites will take place on June 18 at 1 PM at the Crematorium Ground in Amboli, Andheri West, Mumbai.

Professionally, Handa was a practicing lawyer at the Delhi High Court. His wife, Kamini Chopra, is closely related to the Chopra family and is the paternal aunt of Priyanka Chopra and Parineeti Chopra. Despite the familial ties, Mannara has often kept this connection away from the spotlight.

In an earlier interview with Siddharth Kannan, Mannara had shared her reasons for not frequently discussing her relationship with her cousins. “If I would take my family’s name, they would have called me a nepo kid. They would have said that I don’t have a personality. Now that I didn’t take their names, they created another story that my relationship with my sisters is not good. My relations are very sorted,” she said.

She also spoke about the influence Priyanka had on her while growing up. “I looked up to her… she could buy things on her own, stay wherever she wanted, and live on her terms. That was something I imbibed from her.” Mannara, who has worked in films across Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada cinema, continues to build her own path in the industry, now coping with a personal loss that marks a difficult chapter in her life.
