L2 Empuraan: Prithviraj Sukumaran's mother slams those solely blaming her son; says, 'Not cheated anyone'

L2: Empuraan, which is the second movie of the Lucifer trilogy is being loved all the world. The film was announced in 2019 but got delayed mainly due to the pandemic. L2: Empuraan is doing great business at the box office. However, some ‘offensive’ scenes about the Gujarat riots upset a section of the audience. Now, it is undergoing re-censorship. The film might undergo 17 cuts if the makers have to remove the parts, which can upset people. Many fans of Mohanlal have blamed actor and filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran for this fiasco.

Now, his mother Mallika Sukumaran took to her Facebook account to share her POV. She said her son was being made a ‘scapegoat’ when a film is teamwork. Mallika said reports like her son misleading Mohanlal into the film, and producers are painful.

"This is a mother's pain. There is no point in someone making fun of me for speaking openly about it. Neither Mohanlal nor the producers have said that Prithviraj cheated them. I don't think they will ever say that. But it is very sad that some people are trying to make my son a scapegoat without the knowledge of Lal or the producers. Director Prithviraj has not cheated anyone associated with this film or any film. He will never do so."

She further said that Mohanlal was like her younger brother. Mallika Sukumaran said she has known Lal since childhood. Mohanlal too has been appreciative of Prithviraj’s journey as an actor and filmmaker. She said a whole team worked hard to make Empuraan and everyone should be held accountable. She said script reading is done together. If people had any objections, they would have raised during script-reading or filming of the said portions.

If scenes needed to be edited during shooting, writer Murali Gopy was always willing to do so. How can Prithviraj be solely responsible for it when everything was finalized and the film was released?

She said there is not a single shot in the movie that was kept in the dark from Mohanlal and the makers. She said fans could ask either of them and they would say the same thing.
