Akshay Kumar's "Kesari Chapter 2" has opened strong, with advance bookings for its April 18th release already hitting Rs 3 crore. Industry trackers predict a successful box office run for the film, which tells the untold story of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Sacnilk reports that Kesari Chapter 2 has generated Rs 3 crore gross (including block seats) for its opening day, with over 56,000 tickets sold for approximately 4,400 screenings. Even without block seats, the film has garnered nearly Rs 2 crore. These figures suggest a strong start at the box office. The film is seeing the most screenings in Maharashtra (1,029), Gujarat (722), Delhi (439), West Bengal (366), Karnataka (317), and Uttar Pradesh (296).
Ahead of its release, "Kesari Chapter 2" had a special screening in Delhi. CM Rekha Gupta, who attended the screening, described the film as deeply moving, praising its chilling portrayal of the events.
This film gives you goosebumps as it portrays how a bloody Baisakhi was observed that day at Jallianwala Bagh, and how millions sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom, only to be lost in the pages of history… we don’t even know their names. And yet, we are able to breathe freely in an independent nation today because of them
- Rekha Gupta
The film has sparked controversy ahead of its release due to recent comments made by the director, Tyagi, regarding a documentary featuring General Dyer's great-granddaughter. Tyagi criticized her attempt to justify the massacre by labeling the unarmed crowd as looters, raising concerns about the film's potential portrayal of the historical event.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and produced by Karan Johar, "Kesari Chapter 2" stars Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday. The film, which revisits the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of April 13, 1919, focuses on C. Sankaran Nair, a lawyer who fought for justice for the victims. The film follows his journey as he takes on the British Raj in a legal battle.
