In a rare and touching revelation, Kareena Kapoor Khan has opened up about her parents, Randhir Kapoor and Babita Kapoor, choosing to reunite emotionally after years of living separately. Though the couple parted ways in 1988, Kareena shared that they have now decided to spend their old age together—“holding hands,” as she put it in an interview with Mojo Story.
The veteran couple, who never officially divorced, had maintained cordial relations over the years despite living separately. Babita raised daughters Kareena and Karisma on her own, while Randhir continued to support them from a distance. Kareena reflected on this unique dynamic, saying, “Everyone’s parents are the best, but mine truly are. Now, they’ve decided to spend their old age holding hands, because that’s where their journey began—and now, that’s where it is again.”
For Kareena and Karisma, this return to togetherness has been nothing short of emotional. Kareena described the moment as a “full circle” and “divine intervention,” acknowledging that her parents’ support was constant, even during their years apart. She added, “Individually, both of them have been wonderful. My father always supported my choices, and my mother allowed us to grow into who we are.”
Randhir and Babita married in 1971, having fallen in love during their film careers. Babita, who stepped back from acting after marriage, later moved out with her daughters due to personal and professional disagreements. Over the decades, they were often seen attending family events together, offering a glimpse into their continued bond, despite no formal reconciliation.
This late-in-life companionship is significant for Kareena and Karisma, who have carried forward the Kapoor legacy in the film industry. While they never saw their parents as a typical couple, this recent emotional reunion has given them a sense of familial closure.
On the work front, Kareena will soon star in Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar and co-starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. Announcing the film recently, Kareena described it as a bold and timely project that she feels honoured to be part of, especially as she marks 25 years in the film industry.
