Rishab Shetty, known for his role in Kantara, has officially been cast as Lord Hanuman in the upcoming film Jai Hanuman, directed by Prasanth Varma. This film serves as a sequel to HanuMan, which starred Teja Sajja, and is part of Varma's expanding Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU).
The film's creators have revealed a first look featuring Rishab Shetty in the role of Lord Hanuman, depicted on one knee, holding an idol of Lord Rama, with a single tear falling from his eye. The accompanying message states, “A vow from the Tretayuga, bound to be fulfilled in the Kaliyuga.”
Previously, there had been speculation about Shetty taking the lead role, and the recent announcement confirms his involvement.
Jai Hanuman continues the story from this year's HanuMan, which follows a young man named Hanumanthu, who lives with his elder sister in the village of Anjanadri. His life changes dramatically when he discovers a mysterious gem that grants him the powers of Lord Hanuman from Hindu mythology. Armed with these powers, he protects his village from adversaries, culminating in Lord Hanuman's appearance, signaling a larger conflict ahead.
In addition to Jai Hanuman, the PVCU is also developing other films, including Adhira and Maha Kali.
Meanwhile, Rishab Shetty is busy working on Kantara: Chapter 1, a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, which he is directing. Set during the reign of the Kadambas of Banavasi, this period action thriller promises grand visuals and intense action sequences. The film is anticipated to release in 2025, with B. Ajaneesh Loknath returning as the music composer.
