Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan, two of Bollywood's most iconic stars, have captivated audiences with their remarkable on-screen chemistry. However, their legendary partnership may never have flourished if Kajol hadn’t pushed through feelings of burnout after her third film at just 18. It was Shah Rukh who encouraged her to "learn to act," suggesting that this would enhance her enjoyment of the craft.
In a recent interview with India Today, Kajol reflected on her role in Udhaar Ki Zindagi, recalling how Shah Rukh advised her to hone her acting skills. Initially, this advice left her perplexed.
She said, “I remember I finished the film and before that, Shah Rukh was like, ‘You know you just have to learn how to act.’ I was like, ‘What is this? What is he talking about?’ Of course, I’m doing a fabulous job!”
As she continued her career, Kajol soon realized the toll acting was taking on her. By the time she completed her third film, fatigue had set in. She recounted her experience during the filming of Udhaar Ki Zindagi, where she confided in her mother about her exhaustion. At just 18 and a half, she felt completely burnt out, stating that she could no longer cry or use glycerin and wanted to avoid demanding roles.
Instead, Kajol sought projects with "four scenes and ten songs," leading her to sign on for films like Gunda Raj and Hulchul. This shift in focus marked the beginning of her deeper understanding of acting.
On the professional front, Shah Rukh Khan will soon appear in Sujoy Ghosh's King, alongside Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Abhay Verma. Kajol, meanwhile, is set to star in Netflix's Do Patti, which releases on October 25.
