Kajol recently found herself in the middle of an online storm after referring to Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City as “one of the most haunted places in the world” during promotions for her upcoming film Maa. Her statement quickly went viral, leading to a flood of mixed reactions on social media. Many accused her of fuelling superstition and sensationalism.
Now, the actress has stepped forward to clarify her comment and express her respect for the iconic location. On Monday, Kajol took to X (formerly Twitter) to post a note addressing the controversy. She wrote, “I wish to address my earlier remark about Ramoji Film City in the context of promoting my film MAA. I have filmed multiple projects at Ramoji Film City and stayed there many times over the years. I have always found it to be a very professional environment for filmmaking and I have seen so many tourists enjoying themselves. It’s a great destination and absolutely safe for families and children.”

In a video interview with Galatta India, Kajol said she had sensed negative energy at some filming spots. “Sometimes you just feel something is off. I’ve had nights where I couldn’t sleep, and I just wanted to leave,” she noted. Citing Ramoji Film City as a “prime example”, she added, “I’ve been lucky not to have seen anything paranormal, though.” While some viewers found the comment relatable or intriguing, others took offence, accusing her of harming the reputation of a major tourist and film hub. A section of the internet called out the actress for supposedly creating unnecessary drama during film promotions.
Following her tweet, reactions poured in. One user commented, “Thank you for your thoughtful clarification, Kajol ma’am.” Another wrote, “Please stop justifying to people who only look to hate. They’ll twist your words anyway.” Kajol’s latest post aims to put the rumours to rest by reaffirming her positive experiences at Ramoji. Her clarification reflects not only damage control but a larger reminder about responsible storytelling, especially when it concerns well-known public spaces.
