In a major legal blow to Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez, the Delhi High Court has rejected her plea to quash the FIR in the Rs 200-crore money laundering case. The case is linked to alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who is facing multiple investigations across the country.

The court, led by Justice Anish Dayal, also refused to cancel the second supplementary chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The proceedings related to the case are currently pending in a Delhi trial court.

During the hearing, the ED strongly opposed Jacqueline Fernandez’s petition, questioning its maintainability. The agency’s counsel argued that a special court had already taken cognisance of the chargesheet and had found sufficient grounds to proceed. It was also pointed out that Jacqueline had not challenged the cognisance order.

Fernandez has been named as an accused in the case and has previously appeared before the ED for questioning. The charges stem from her alleged links with Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who is accused of defrauding the spouses of Ranbaxy’s former promoters, Shivinder Singh and Malvinder Singh, of Rs 200 crore.

The case involves serious allegations. Sukesh Chandrasekhar and his wife, Leena Paulose, are accused of using hawala channels and shell companies to move and conceal the proceeds of crime. The Delhi Police had booked the duo and others under several sections, including the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

While Jacqueline Fernandez’s team had hoped to have the FIR and charges quashed, this rejection by the Delhi High Court marks a significant setback in her ongoing legal battle. With the trial court proceedings still active and the ED maintaining its stance, the legal scrutiny around the actor remains intense.

The case continues to attract attention due to its scale and the high-profile names involved, adding pressure to both the investigation and the individuals named in it.
