Is Regional Cinema a backup plan for Bollywood?

Remakes of good films are obvious and every film industry does that to make their audience aware of the good content but it has been prevailing in Bollywood from a very long time. And from past few years many movies from Indian regional Cinema have been remade. These films mainly belong to the genre of romance or the so called entertainment based movies.

But if Bollywood is primarily and populary known around the globe for it's entertainment based movies then why are we lacking to create our original content?

Even when our filmmakers take up the job of recreating a regional film they end up ruining the original story by making unnecessary changes in the name of cinematic liberty.

There was a time when Bollywood was well known for its parallel cinema as these movies represented the Hindi film industry on an international level. But over the years, parallel cinema declined giving a rise to mainstream movies and then Bollywood became popular for its Masala films. But yet it is lacking the authenticity.

So do you feel regional cinema is used as a backup plan by Bollywood filmmakers?
