Ileana D'Cruz reveals the challenges of balancing career and motherhood

In a candid interview with India Today, Ileana D'Cruz shared insights into her hiatus from cinema, attributing it to a combination of factors, including the pandemic-induced lockdowns and her pregnancy. She emphasized that her absence wasn't a deliberate choice but rather a consequence of external circumstances derailing her work plans.

Reflecting on the challenges she faced during this period, Ileana highlighted the disruption caused by the pandemic, which resulted in delays for her projects. Despite her desire to engage in meaningful work, the unforeseen circumstances forced her to prioritize other aspects of her life, particularly her family.

She said, "Last year, 2023, I was pregnant through most of it and then I had my baby. So, it's never been a conscious choice to say that ‘Okay, you know what, I'm not going to stay away from home.’ I think the only conscious choice I'm making right now is to be with my baby. But, before that, there was never any decision to take a break and not work. Now, I'm glad that people are finally appreciating the work that's coming out."

While absent from the big screen, Ileana ventured into the realm of OTT platforms, featuring in the 2021 film The Big Bull alongside Abhishek Bachchan. Additionally, she revealed her involvement in a web series in 2022, which was interrupted due to her pregnancy.

Directed by Shirsha Guha Thakurta, Do Aur Do Pyaar offers a refreshing take on romantic comedy, revolving around married couples. Alongside Ileana, the film features Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, and Sendhil Ramamurthy in prominent roles. Produced by a talented team including Sameer Nair, Deepak Segal, Tanuj Garg, Atul Kasbekar, and Swati Iyer Chawla, the movie hit theaters on April 19, 2024, receiving acclaim for its portrayal of relatable relationships.
