In the world of television, actors often find themselves taking on challenging roles that require them to embody characters much older or different from themselves. Sayli Salunkhe, the talented young actress, is all set to captivate audiences with her portrayal of a 35-year-old woman in the upcoming Star Plus show, "Baatein Kuch Ankaheen Si." In an exclusive interview with India Forums, the 24-year-old opened up about the unique experience of playing an older character while relatively young, her reasons for choosing the show, and how her Maharashtrian background adds depth to her character.
Sayli, despite her young age, has taken on the formidable task of playing a character a decade older than herself. Salunkhe's commitment to her craft and willingness to explore unconventional roles showcase her dedication as an artist. Talking about the same, the actress revealed whether or not there have been any preparations on her part to look like a 35-year-old onscreen. Sayli said, ''Honestly, there is no preparation as such. I do not think you can look like a 35-year-old with makeup. It is about how convincingly I bring it to the audience and make them believe in my character. There are no other preps involved. I am just enjoying the process without being too hard on myself.''

When asked about her decision to take up "Baatein Kuch Ankahi Si," Sayli Salunkhe cited the chance to work with acclaimed producer Rajan Shahi and the production house DKP as one of the primary reasons. Rajan Shahi has a proven track record of delivering successful shows, and DKP has been associated with several critically acclaimed projects. The opportunity to collaborate with such established names undoubtedly added weight to her decision. The actress said, ''The primary reason has to be Rajan Sir and DKP. So, as soon as I got their offer, I wanted to do the show. However, later on, when I auditioned for the show and got to know about the story, I loved it. Before this, too, I had done a Marathi film where I was not very decked up. Looking beautiful onscreen has never been my motto. I want my character to be nice; I want people to see and recognize me for my work. I did not get the desired reach for the past two shows that I have done. I hope people can see the difference now. And I am no one to take up a show. The makers thought I was fit for the character, so they chose me.''

Being a Maharashtrian, Sayli found a special connection with her character in 'Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si.' The show revolves around a Marathi family, and Salunkhe's understanding of the cultural nuances and traditions has helped her bring authenticity to her role. Talking about the same, Sayli said, ''Yes, my Marathi roots will be of great help here. Everyone has different cultures, and everyone understands their culture, so I will be able to contribute to the show. Apart from this, I have great and veteran actors working with me on the show. So if I lack somewhere, they will help me. The only difference between Vandana and Sayli is their age.''

We asked Sayli if she believed that the show would be a breakthrough opportunity for her since she mentioned how she did not get the desired reach with her previous shows. The actress said, ''Honestly, I do not know if I can say this. It is too early. If people like the show and resonate with it, then it will definitely be a breakthrough for me. As an actor, you have to work sincerely. So when people love you in return, that is your most significant breakthrough.''

Why did they cast a 24 yrs old actress for a 35 yrs character role? It is already tough for 35+ yrs old actresses to bag leading roles!
