Gunshots fired at Kapil Sharma's 'KAP's Cafe' in Canada, Comedian's remarks cited reason: Report

An incident of gunfire was reported outside Kapil Sharma’s newly opened café, Kap’s Café, in Surrey, British Columbia, on the night of July 9. The café had been operational for only a few days before the shooting took place.

Security footage and a video clip circulated online show a person discharging multiple rounds from inside a moving vehicle, aiming at the front section of the café. At least nine shots were fired, and bullet impacts were seen on the café’s glass exterior and nearby buildings. No injuries were reported as the café was closed at the time, and no staff or customers were present.

A video of the shooting was also shared on social media by a Twitter handle, which quickly gained attention. The visuals showed the attack unfolding at night, with sounds of gunfire clearly audible. The post led to a wave of concern among social media users, many of whom expressed worry for the safety of the people involved and called for increased security at the location.

Local police in Surrey arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and began a detailed investigation. Bullet casings were recovered, and the area was cordoned off for forensic examination. CCTV footage from nearby establishments has also been collected for review.

Following the incident, Harjit Singh Laddi, a fugitive listed by India’s National Investigation Agency and alleged to be affiliated with the Babbar Khalsa International group, claimed responsibility. In his statement, he referenced certain remarks made by Kapil Sharma as the motive, although Canadian law enforcement has not officially verified the claim.

Kap’s Café, opened by Sharma and his wife earlier this month, features a fusion menu of Indian beverages and contemporary desserts. It had recently generated interest online due to its soft launch and celebrity association.

No suspects have been detained so far. The police investigation is ongoing, with additional surveillance footage and evidence under review. Authorities have not issued a timeline for when the café will reopen. Kapil Sharma has not released a public comment regarding the incident.
