Drashti Dhami on how she did not prep on first shoot day of 'The Empire'

With a flurry of shows coming in on the web space, it has indeed become extremely difficult to stand out as the options are a plenty and only the numbers only continue to grow everyday. Usually, content is what takes the cake on this display of multiple options but one other way to do it is present the biggest show when it comes to scale.

Disney+ Hostar's upcoming show, The Empire is touted to be India's biggest series coming in and the trailer is definitely the perfect indicator of that. With massive scale, huge production budget, and grandeur, The Empire has managed to create an instant impact with the trailer and the various looks of the characters. While that is indeed amazing, one other thing that has also stood out has been the alluring ensemble cast that has been roped in for the principal characters.

While the likes of Kunal Kapoor, Shabana Azmi and others are the kind of names you would expect in a show like this, actor Drashti Dhami, who has been a TV face all these years is all set to make her web debut in this series and she plays one of the titular roles of Khanzada Begum.

In an exclusive conversation with India Forums, Dhami opened up on how did the show happen to her and how she was entirely unprepared on the first day of shoot. She said, "When I came to know about this show, I met Nikhil Sir (Advani). He took my audition but also mentioned that it is all in the hands of Mitakshara Kumar, the director of the show. I literally told my manager, do whatever you can but make this happen (laughs). Fortunately, after the look tests, I was selected and bagged the role of Khanzada Begum."

About the first day of shoot, she said, "On the first day of shoot, honestly, I was entirely unprepared. But when I arrived on set, I would everyone on their toes and already in their respective characters. They would have scripts and caught the essence of the character as well. I did my lines and had my script but still didn't have the essence of Khanzada. Gradually, it got better with every passing day, and I would like to credit Mitakshara in helping me do that as well as I can. By the end, Mitakshara wouldn't have to even tell me anything and I lived the character throughout."

We are sure the fans of the actor cannot wait to see her in this fresh new avatar.
