Actor Avinesh Rekhi has been on the tube for the longest time and only recently quit his long-running role in Choti Sardarni. Now, Rekhi has moved on and is playing the lead in Tere Bina Jiya Jaye Na. However, one would remember how Rekhi was only known for his negative characters in multiple TV shows. But then, Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji happened and things changed entirely.
Talking about it with ETimes TV, Rekhi said, "I have always believed in looking different for each role that I take up. Whether it was Chal - Sheh Aur Maat or Madhubala or Main Naa Bholungi, I have always worked on my fitness levels and look. People feel that every time I take up a new show, I try to look younger, but why not? If my fitness levels help me look younger than I will get better roles. In fact, when Choti Sarrdaarni got over, I had to undergo a newer fitness regime to look leaner in Tere Bina. In Choti... I was playing a sardar, who was well-built and the character required someone who was fit and could fight goons. In Tere Bina, I had to look much younger. It is not easy staying lean and fit, but I prefer that in every show, people get to see a fresher and newer Avinesh."Sharing how he started his career doing negative roles.
Rekhi says, "Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji was the turning point in my career. Before Tu Sooraj, I used to only play negative roles, whether it was Chal or Main Naa Bholungi. I felt that people saw me doing negative roles and therefore they slotted me. But, when I was offered Tu Sooraj, I became quieter and more focussed towards the craft because suddenly I was cast in a lead role. I sported a six-pack in that show, and people appreciated my work. And after Tu Sooraj, there has been no looking back. Now, when I speak about my work or personal life, I am much more comfortable because I am confident in my career."
Rekhi concluded talking about how he wills to explore the digital medium as well but the roles have to meaty.
