Aamir Khan's Daughter Ira Khan Speaks on Healing Childhood Wounds: ‘Then the Forgiving Can Begin’

Ira Khan, daughter of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, recently gave a heartfelt interview where she spoke honestly about her relationship with her father and their shared emotional journey. While Aamir is today known as a loving and supportive father, both he and Ira openly addressed the emotional gap that existed during her childhood years.

Ira, who chose a different path than films, is the founder of Agatsu Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to mental health. Speaking to Pinkvilla, she revealed how she and her father have worked through tough emotions together. While Aamir Khan has often expressed his guilt about not being around during her early years, Ira had a unique perspective. “He takes a larger volume of blame upon himself than I actually assign to him,” Ira said. “In my mind, the blame is also on me, and there are a few things that even I don’t do well, like not knowing how to feel and express anger. I have been trying to be better in the past 2 years, and once that happens, then I can decide what exactly I am angry about, and then the forgiving can begin.”

Aamir, during the same conversation, admitted how his dedication to cinema consumed him so deeply that he realised his absence in his children’s lives only after 35 years. He said, “I was lost within the magic of films and cinema, and I realised my absence after 35 years, and I felt extremely guilty. You also realise that you are never going to get that time back, and that disturbs you… I don’t sweep things under the carpet and avoid dealing with them. I like to live with my feelings.”

Despite the regrets, Aamir is proud of his daughter’s work. While talking about Agatsu, he said, “Aap paise kama rahe ho ya nahi, wo mere liye important nahi hai. Aap kaam accha kar rahe ho, ye mere liye important hai.” He added that money is just a promissory note and doesn’t matter as much as the impact one makes in people’s lives.
