Salman Khan revs up Sony's TRP ratings with Dus Ka Dum

MUMBAI: It's advantage Salman Khan! The fight between general entertainment channels to garner eyeballs juxtaposing Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and the Badshaah Shah Rukh Khan has had a positive impact on Sony. June 6 saw three general entertainment channels launching celebrity-hosted game shows.

Sony's Dus ka Dum came in at number one with Amap's six metro ratings revealing that the show garnered an average TVR of 2.81 and a peak rating of 4.5.

Star Plus' Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tej hai?, hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, interestingly was far behind, with an average rating of 1.37 TVR and a peak rating of 2.3 while Hrithik Roshan's Junoon — Kuch Kar Dikhane Ka on NDTV Imagine only managed an average TVR of 0.76 and a peak rating of 1.1.

Even Star One's The Great Indian Laughter Challenge 4, which has roped in Shatrughan Sinha, fared better than Hrithik Roshan's show, with an average TVR of 1.03 and a peak rating of 1.9. TAM, the official rating agency, will publish its numbers at the end of next week. Amap, a TAM rival, is also widely followed by the industry.

"Salman's success comes from the fact that there is a novelty value in seeing him on the small screen, Hrithik has come on and off and hence Salman's novelty value is far stronger. Shah Rukh Khan is now well known on TV and Paanchvi Paas has been around for a while. To Sony's advantage, Salman is also extremely popular with Indian households.

However, let's see if he can sustain it," said Lintas Media Group chairman Lynn D'souza. On day two, too, Salman Khan managed to keep the show afloat, sustaining his innings with an average TVR of 2.27 and a peak rating of 3.5 TVR. Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tej hai? picked up a bit with the ratings standing at 1.82 and a peak rating of 3. Hrithik Roshan continued to struggle on day two as well, clocking a 0.65 TVR and a 0.9 TVR at its peak.

Starcom MediaVest CEO (South Asia) Ravi Kiran said: "Sony is a 13-year-old platform while Imagine is under six-months old. Hence, clearly, a show that debuts on Sony will fare better. Shows such as these are not only to do with the celebrities but it entails the entire package and Sony has been doing a reasonably consistent job over the last six weeks. Also, Dus Ka Dum has a unique format and hence has more curiosity value.

Sony jumps back then slides back...same old circle of dhoom.😆😆

Nice to see Salman has done well. Sony has a great range of programs now. Hopefully more people will watch the channel. My uncle from India was saying most people don't watch Sony. Even with the heat of Zee TV people still continue to watch Star Plus, and besides this is only 1 show. Star Plus has many shows that are doing really well..
