I thought kush was the elder one .For rhyming purpose ,it is said Luv- Kush.Post Ashwamedha yagya,Shriram equally divided the expanded kingdom equally between the 8 sons .All the brothers had 2 sons each .But he doesn't assign the property of Ayodhya to anyone because all the living beings ,men ,women and children wanted to accompany Shree Ram in his final journey.Bhrama designs a special alternate Vaikuntha for the Ayoddhya vasis by the order of Vishnu.Its special,because all of them go there with their physical bodies .They remain close to Vishnu and attained Moksha.So it's even better than Swargaloka where people would have to reincarnate after sometime ..Ayoddhaya remains barren for several years .Then the city goddess visits Kush in his dreams and wishes for him to shift his capital back to Ayodhya.Kush complies and for the next 21 generations ,the direct descendants Of Ram ruled over Ayoddhya till the last son Agnivarna.He also participated in the MB war.
