If we go into 70s era we can see how successful women too were extremely burdened by patriarchy nature of society.

1. Madhubala's father didn't approve of shooting location because of which things went bad between dilip kumar and her.

2. Saira Bano remained married to dilip kumar even though he married a Pakistani socialite and than left her after knowing her flirtatious nature.

3. Hema Malini married dharmendra even though he never divorced his first wife.

4. Jaya Bachchan never tried for divorce even though AB is still linked to rekha.

5. Helen married a married man and lived with his children and Salman Khan. Though Salim and salma Khan had love marriage still he cheated her.

Many more would be there I feel

Everything on this list (except for the first one) was their own choice... They did out of free will

And I heard Madhubala's father was concerned for her safety, he felt that location was unsafe

Not from 70's, but Suraiya's grandmother did not allow Dev Anand to marry Suraiya because he was a Hindu. In Suraiya's own words

“Eventually, my grandmother succeeded in separating us. Dev was deeply hurt and offended by my lack of courage. But I was afraid for him. In retrospect, I don't think anything would have happened if I'd been bold enough. But I was terrified of my grandmother. And was heartbroken.”

Suraiya remained unmarried her entire life while Dev Anand married Kalpana Kartik later on.

Now both are dead.

This can be a great movie based on true events.

Hillary Clinton remained married to her husband despite rumors of his philandering ways. He was at the center of one of the biggest sex scandals of the nineties, but she never left him.

Akshay Khanna has a reputation for being a philanderer too, but Twinkle remains steadfast with him.

It is not limited to India, Bollywood, or the '70s. Patriarchy is a factor, but sometimes the issues at hand are far more complex. Some women stick by their husbands due to patriarchal pressures. But some women stick by their husbands because they seek factors other than fidelity in their marriage.

Patriarchy has little to do with falling in love with emotionally unavailable individuals. Happens to most

But most husbands would never, ever stick by a philandering wife. No "factors" can make them do so.

It's deep rooted mentality because of patriarchy. How many men will tolerate such wive already having a husband or having extra marital affair.
