Zain looked into Aliya's eyes which were glistening with tears, she shot back "Happy Birthday!" And he retorted..."yeh tum mujhe wish kar rahi ho ya ...? Anyway...thank you..."
Even before he could complete his sentence Aliya was on her way out.
"Wo ladki kaun thi...Zain ne usse kya bulaya tha? shayad office mein hogi...magar phir Zain usse aise hug nahin karta..." Aliya was overcome with jealousy... and started to cry...another woman in close proximity of Zain was an image she couldn't bear...it was something she never imagined could be possible..."how? Zain sirf mujhse pyaar kar sakta hain..."...as Nafeesa came along and asked her what was wrong..."Aliya, tum theek ho...congratulations are in order...ro kyon rahi ho...Zain se baat hui...usne kuch kahaa?" "Nafeesa bhabhi...woh...ladki Zain ke saath...uske office mein..."..."Hogi koi office staff Aliya, kyon? " The intense jealousy that Aliya felt at the time confirmed that girl was no staff member...Zain was seeing her...he was going out to lunch with her...on his birthday..."How dare he... kisi aur ke saath kaise jaa sakte ho..." Aliya couldn't control herself and immediately called the office in London.
" ...bolo Aliya...iss baar pyaar se wish karne ke liye phone kiya hoga nai?"
" haan...haan...happy birthday... tum lunch par ja rahe ho? Koun koun ja raha hain tumhare saath? " Zain played innocent, though he knew exactly who Aliya was referring to. It was the most forthcoming Aliya had been with him in months...and if this is what it took to bring her feelings to the core...he was going to play the game to win...win her back...anything to get Aliya back. Rehan could go to hell, Aliya belonged with Zain Abdullah. Reputation, society, respect and everything else be damned.
"Oh...Sam ke saath ja rah hun... meri bahot achchi dost hain, bari cute hai... Doctor hai, khush mizaaj... dancing ka bara shoukh hain usse. Hamesha dinner par invite karti rehti hain, soch rahan hoon aaj chalaa hi jata hun uske saath. Raat bhar, tumhare share transfers ke chakkar mein board waalon ko jawaab dete dete tired ho gaya hun. Sam ke saath chala jaoonga...to enjoy bhi kar lunga aur relaxed bhi feel karunga...tum batao...sab khairiyat?" He answered casually with a poker face...even though his heart was racing inside...
Aliya hissed at Zain " jab...itna hi tiring kaam tha...to shares transfer karne ke liye kisne kahaa...mujhe koi shares wares nahin chahiye...main bahot khush hun...wapas transfer kar detin hun..."
Zain carried on along the same lines...to push Aliya further down so she could be in touch with her heart "Arre bhai...itna gussa kyon ho rahi ho...waise tevar abhi bhi kam nahin hain tumhaare...pehle kaam karvao...aur happy birthday ki wish nahin mil paati..."...was trying to keep this conversation going with Aliya...open her up, it was so long since she was acting like his girl again...
Aliya was so worked up and flustered, she just couldn't begin to visualize Zain with another woman... she couldnt keep Zain to herself? What? But he belonged to her...
"Maine to nahin kahaa tha...mujhe koi MKB, nahin chahiye... yeh agreement sirf Rehan ne kahaan isiliye..."
*"Rehan"*...that one word instantly changed Zain's mood, it grated on his nerves...just as he was beginning to get a little relaxed and playful to bring Aliya back... that name took Zain away in an instant. There was silence for a few seconds before he caustically said, "Haan...yeh baat to hai...tum Rehan ki bari sunti ho... jahaan kahaa, jab kahaa...wahan sign kar diya..." bringing them both back to their awful reality with that statement.
"Allah hafiz..." he said before he hung up.
What was she thinking? Playing *Mamu ki Bhanji* with Zain? Aliya was married to Rehan today, and Zain could see whoever he wanted...Sam, Pam whoever...but... it felt like someone stabbed her in the heart when she heard the sound of Sam & Zain in the same breath? Was this how Zain had felt when she and Rehan were married? Did he feel like he was going to die...like a million shards of glass had pierced through his heart..." ...allah...main kya karun..."
Even as tears rolled down her cheeks...Rehan swung by to pick Aliya up to go home...they needed to pack to leave tomorrow, to meet Rida's father in London ...Aliya was surprised..."Kal ..London ja rahein hain?"..."Haan Aliya...maine bataaya to tha... kahaan rehti to aaj kal...main sab kuch nahin sambhal pa raha hun aaliya...thora sa saath de do ...kal tum aur bachche London jaa rahein hain, main ek mahine baad hi aa sakunga...humne discuss to kiya tha?"
" Rida ke father ke health ka koi bharosa nahin...tum logon ko jaldi nikalna padega...magar Zain ne mujhe itne saare responsibilities diye hain ke main kal nahin ja paoonga"
"Magar London Rehan..itni jaldi?" Aliya asked confused...
"Ufff...Aliya...maine sab kuch kar diya hain...tum bas bachchon ka khayal rakhna...Rida ke family ke saath rahoge to koi problem to nahin hogi"
" magar main kabhi India se bahar nahin gayi..." Aliya protested
"Pehle yahaan se chalo...main ghar chalte chalte samjha dunga"...Rehan calmed her down as they walked out...
Meanwhile in London, by the time Zain could step out ...it was evening...and he went out for an early dinner with Samia and a couple other friends of hers, "No one should be alone...on a birthday..being happy was an always an
option...all one had to do...was...be happy...that's all it took...really" she had wisely said in her strong British accent..."If only it were that simple..."
Zain thought...Samia hadn't really fallen in love ever...
