PRO-FILE: Deepa Parab
Nitin Joshi
You have seen her in innumerable commercials and in some popular
shows, too, like Chhoti Ma, Meet, and Reth. She's been very active
on the Marathi stage since her childhood.
That's Deepa Parab for you. Ever - smiling and talented.
Nowadays you see her in Sony's Thodi Khushi Thodi Gham. In this
daily serial, she plays the youngest bahu in the family married to
Pranav (Amit Jain). "My character's name is Sneha. She is a very
practical girl and stands up for everything which is right. She is
very straightforward and will tell you to your face if she thinks
something is wrong.
"At the same time she is quite sentimental. A simple, emotional girl
who loves her husband," explains Deepa. She reveals that people come
up to her and tell her she's the ideal bahu in today's world. "My
friends and family obviously like what I am doing with the role,
although they keep teasing me saying I talk too much and I have a
long tonque," she adds.
Deepa says she relates to the character of Sneha because like her,
she is also practical and straightforward. "The only thing is, I am
not too sentimental. Almost 80 per cent, we are alike."
Asked how the role came about, she recalls that one day she got a
call from the show's producer, Shobana Desai and was given a
briefing about the story and her character: "I loved it instantly,"
she says. Thodi Khushi… is one of the more popular shows on
Sony. "It's going really well. What I specially like is that we
don't work around the clock — we have time and space to ourselves."
