Raj Kapoor is a name almost all are familiar with. Rightly described as a megastar, producer, director, actor and all-round showman, Raj Kapoor has permanently carved for himself a special niche in commercial Hindi cinema. The son of actor Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor started his career as a clapper boy but bagged his first film role at the age of eleven. He dominated the Hindi film industry like a titan since then.
Just being a film star was not enough. He ventured into the demanding arena of film making - establishing RK Studios, producing and directing some of the biggest box office hits in Indian cinema like Awara, Sangam, Mera Naam Joker, Bobby etc. The combination of composer Shankar-Jaishen, singer Mukesh and actor/director Raj Kapoor have churned out memorable evergreen song after song which are still considered as some of the best songs in the Bollywood musical treasure box. Decades after his movies, we still long for them and the air of freshness that the movies and the songs bring forward. His films will never become obsolete. Raj Kapoor's unforgettable films and their lyrical songs are his greatest legacy.
And this week take the musical journey down the melody lane with Raj Kapoor Saab and have the pleasure of revisiting some of those songs that earned him the title of "Showman of Bollywood...."
