"I don't mind acting in films" - Sanam Puri
He debuted as a playback singer in the movie Gori Tere Pyaar Mein with the song is Dhaat Teri Ki.
Sanam Puri is also the lead singer for the band named SQS Project.
Which is your earliest and the fondest memory of you winning a singing competition as a kid?
There are many. Its hard to pick one. Every win has been special to me and has motivated me to do better.
Tell us something about your SQS Band?
My first ever band was with my brother Samar Puri and 3 more band members in Muscat when I was 13. Venky who moved to bangalore was in the same band and introduced me and my brother to Keshav Dhanraj (Drummer) because we were looking for a drummer in Mumbai. It was just me, Samar and Keshav initially. Then later Venky also became a member who travels from Bangalore to Mumbai just for the band. It was formed in 2010 so were 3 years old.
How did Dhat Teri Ki Main happened?
My band SQS Project and Vishal - Shekhar have a common manager, Ben Thomas. Ben heard our song Teri Aankhon Se and loved it so much that he made Vishal - Shekhar hear it. They really appreciated the composition and my voice. We then went to their studio and played a few songs live and immediately they told me they have a song for me and a week later they called me for Dhat Teri Ki.
Your song Dhat Teri Ki is quite a party number? What was your reaction to it?
When I first heard Dhat Teri Ki I got very excited. The music, the composition, the lyrics, everything fit together really well. I felt extremely comfortable singing it and recording it was extremely fun. I'm damn lucky that I got to sing a song like Dhat Teri Ki.
Your three all time favourite party numbers?
I don't have any. Because I don't listen to party music.
Your idols?
None. I'm self-taught. I believe in learning from experience and being original.
