So, any book you'd recommend for a first-time fantasy reader?

I mean, I read paranormal romance. (Is paranormal considered fantasy? Idk …)

WE HAD THE PERFECT CAST AND NETFLIX SET IT ON FIRE

Anyway... I don't know if I have any specific recs for first-time fantasy readers; it really just depends on your current tastes. I always find that trying a new genre is a lot easier when there are elements similar to books you already like. (I always recommend The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi. I think it's a great introduction to fantasy, but it's also a historical fantasy, so if historical fiction isn't really your thing, you might not like it.)

Paranormal is totally considered fantasy! What sort of paranormal romances do you read? Like, ones with ghosts and spirits, or something that leans more towards the supernatural genre with vampires and werewolves? (I was really into paranormal romance when I was like, 12-14. It was really big back then, before Cassandra Clare and other fantasy authors like her took over the fantasy space. I might have some recs, but they're probably really outdated, lols.)

Since I now know that you're both avid fantasy readers and we've liked some of the same books, have either of you read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern? I recently finished it, and I feel like every single person who recommended it to me is a liar.

I read it so long ago I barely remember anything from it now but yeah it was okay only not as good as everyone was saying!

I think for paranormal, a good place to start might be Nalini Singh, tho all her stuff is romance first, paranormal second, but she writes very compelling characters!

Don't get me wrong, the writing is fantastic. The book has such a unique setting, and I haven't had a fantasy with descriptions that actually make it feel magical. But this book was 'no plot, just vibes' and I'm usually pretty chill with books like that, but I was PROMISED A PLOT. (I haven't been this disappointed in a book I was really excited to read since I read The Dream Runners by Shveta Thakrar.)

Any avid fantasy readers here? I'm looking for fantasy novels with great world-building! Preferably no romantasy suggestionssmiley9

i know it will sound cliche but “the Lord of the Rings” trilogy is the best of the best❤️

But then all of Tolkien’s works are amazing!
