Purely intended for a dramatic effect. Publishers dig that stuff and writers intentionally or maybe sometimes forced to, include such scenes to make it, for a lack of a better word more saleable.

My goodness. Again I wrote the same reply. Used the same word, "deep". Telepathy is real, man. smiley37

Twin souls maybe? smiley36 Although we could make that mele mein bichde hue twins into a ITV show. That's so like a melodramatic soap opera trope. smiley37

Yes, you're probably right. And if you want to know the context, you can read my reply to Pavitra. It's a mature post. I wrote about the books and the scenes in that mature post.

These are actually very disturbing. I think this has become a common phenomenon these days in films and literature where the writer deliberately chooses such scenes to convey something "deep", whereas actually, they are just morbid. I think it's a common recurrence in contemporary literature where writers wish to create something meaningful but fail miserably due to their poor understanding of subtle imagery. And this sad state of affairs is compounded by the money-minded publishers. I also think the success of those explicit teen and young adult novels and novellas have also contributed to this.

Oh no! You're articulate and precise too. I do get into long drawn out essays some times. You're my TL;DR version. smiley27smiley36

Yes Shirsha I read that post and it’s quite disturbing actually. I can’t imagine a reason to include it except to create a sensational effect, something that attracts attention.

But symbolism shouldn't make readers uncomfortable. I really want to read two insanely popular novels, but I think I need to skip reading them at least for now, because of the disturbing scenes.

which one are you talking about? A little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
