Ok I think I watch tv shows very differently than some people. I don’t necessarily watch them with my own morality compass…it’s entertainment to me at the end of the day. I don’t think they are trying to glorify anything negative in this. It’s controversial for sure but it makes for interesting tv sometimes but it definitely isn’t for everyone and that’s fine.
Having said that, I think personal experience also affects perspective. Just sharing something personal, a bit painful to talk about but I lost my sister to cancer a few years ago. I cannot tell how painful it was getting a poor prognosis and dealing with the thought of losing a loved one. Especially with a terrible prognosis, time is NOT on your side.
I think Sadaf looking for alternative ways to get that kind of money is out the question in my opinion. Bilal is accessible to her and has that type of money…she didn’t have the time or resources for an alternative. I know I wouldn’t and I can understand why that would be her first option. I’m not saying that I would offer the same thing she did (definitely not) but I was never in position of needing a large sum of money I didn’t have. I can say though that desperation makes you do weird, out of character things. My Iman/faith is very strong but I started resorting to people who said they could help with some ritualistic practices but honestly it was things that went against my own faith. It didn’t even make sense but you do weird things in your desperation. My sister refused to do some of things reminding me how it was totally against our faith and I’m now grateful that she did. Sometimes the person going through something like this is much stronger than family members that are terrified to lose them. You can definitely lose yourself.
I think if anything this made it clear that this isn’t a case of good girl vs. bad girl but rather that sometimes it’s more about circumstances. To me, this was more of reflection of what she thought Bilal stood for. It made him self reflect that this is what he was reduced to in someone’s eyes.
I do think Sadaf offered herself a few too many times, lol and she would be making a huge mistake if this went through. I think she wanted to make it crystal clear that she was willing to do whatever it takes for the money. It was a mistake on her part but I don’t feel it made her a bad person. I also don’t think this was demeaning to women. It was a moment of desperation, vulnerability and weakness. Add to that, her making assumptions about Bilal’s character. Is it morally wrong? Yes and I think so too. She lost that part of her self-respect in the process. However I can empathize with her situation and I think it makes it a more of an interesting character to see good people make bad decisions. It veers further away from the concept of good/decent vs. bad/immoral.
