My understanding is, Followers and Engagement ratio doesn't necessarily have to go hand in hand.
Different things work for different profiles differently π
For starters, It's all about how you curate your profile with the kind of buzz that you have on hand. Take Hania for example. She has this very magnetic-fun-loving personality and it shows in all the posts that she puts out there. People, particularly the gen z, is able to connect with her content. The MH popularity helped her with the buzz and it continues with MPHT still on air. In my opinion, Hania has cracked it the best. She balances well between work posts and personal stuff. Makes even the work posts look fun.
Then you have the example of Wahaj and Dur e Fishan, whose profiles blew up primarily because of their Blockbuster dramas that were widely watched in the Indian Subcontinent. People came for that and stayed for the looks and the line up of big dramas that have been hitting the screens back to back.
The likes of Sarah and Aiman might see a lesser engagement than their counterparts because people have seen it all over the years and might be over with it because of the over exposure. Even though, Iqra too has put out her's and the family's life out in the public, what's favouring her over them is her block buster dramas in the recent past (Kam 3 and Suno Chanda for example) which has kept her buzz alive. Also, her photo and video aesthetics seem catchy and candid.
Mahira is less active on Insta. So, when she posts anything work related or personal life, it gets engagement just fine. In her case, the exclusivity helps because she doesn't post too much of anything.
Off late, Ayeza has made her Insta all about work. The more brands oriented a profile becomes, the less engagement it gets. She posts plenty of pictures from the same photoshoot and does several of those. So the profile ends up looking more like a catalogue. Earlier she used to have a good mix of work, BTS stuff and personal life related posts. Also, In the last three years she has mainly done only Ramzan Dramas, the hype for those is also short lived and doesn't help with the Insta buzz as well.
One doesn't have to be a Mahira Khan, the superstar with a successful career spanning over a decade to have the highest following or highest engagement. A Dur E Fishan too can boast of a half a million likes with just one superhit KTK. Instagram is superficial like that. Aaj kisi ke pass numbers hai toh kal kisi ke pass. Who else but Mawra can explain this better! π
So yeah, it all depends.. Is there a super hit drama on air? Is the content fun, catchy, aesthetic? Is it too brand oriented? (Too many paid partnerships? Photoshoots? Ads?) Is the person goodlooking? (To begin with Instagram is all about looks, so ofcourse π) Newly married couple serving couple goals pictures? Cute baby on board? Get togethers and family events? .. the list is endless.. just have to be the right mix and you have your engagement and following increasing like crazy π
