CHAPTER 10
"She still loves that betrayer!" said Arvind sitting with his eyes closed, joining the finger tips of both hands together thoughtfully.
"What's on your mind?" asked Nisha placing a glass of water on the table for him.
Arvind was sweating. She knew he was tensed. She had already sensed his concern over the phone call about forty minutes ago when he had told her that he was coming to meet her right away.
"I must talk to him" Arvind was breathing heavily.
Nisha gently rubbed his back and handed him the glass of water insisting him to have some. Arvind gulped down the water and almost banged the glass on the table breathlessly.
"Relax..." said Nisha rubbing his back. After a long pause, she added "I know you hate him beyond compare"
"And I always will!"

Khushi was with her colleagues having lunch. Arohi must have had lunch by now at the day care... There never passed a day when Arohi's thought didn't cross Khushi's mind every now and then. She was a mother after all. Correction! A single mother. And she knew what the challenges of being a single mother were. But Arohi always made her forget all the sorrows. Just the thought of Arohi never failed to bring a smile on Khushi's face. She always thanked God for bringing Arohi into her life. Arohi was like a breath of fresh air and Khushi's world revolved around her. It started with Arohi and ended on Arohi, nothing more.
Sometimes Khushi wondered what would she have done had Arohi not been in her life. She usually couldn't imagine her life without Arohi. But sometimes she did... unknowingly. There were times she couldn't control the flow of her thoughts as they dragged her into a different direction. What if she had got the abortion done four years ago? Would Arnav and she still have been together? Was it really a choice between Arnav and Arohi that she had made? A choice between Arnav and Arohi! That thought had always scared her. And I chose Arohi over Arnav! Was that a mistake? Did I make the wrong choice? Khushi sometimes couldn't understand why things happened. But how could I kill her? Recalling Arohi's innocent face Khushi had always managed to fight back her thoughts and defend her choice.
Arohi a dream Khushi had always had when she was with Arnav, though she had never told him. She had always wanted a baby girl with Arnav after marriage - a daughter named Arohi', two letters of Arnav' and two letters of Khushi'. Arohi who would be partly like Arnav, partly like Khushi and the rest like her unique self. Khushi's dream did come true, but not the way she had wanted it to be. Every time Arohi asked about her father, Khushi assured her saying he would come one day. Was she assuring herself indirectly? Did she want him to come back? Was Arvind saying the truth? Do I still love him?
Khushi couldn't take it anymore. She just brushed away those scary thoughts to realise that she was sitting with her colleagues in the cafeteria having lunch. They were discussing about the upcoming 'Family Day' outing in the office where the employees could get they spouse, children and parents/in-laws to the resort. Khushi realised that Arohi was her only family. She told herself with determination that Arohi didn't need a father and neither did she herself need Arnav... that she and Arohi were enough for each other... and that she was capable of bringing up Arohi by herself. Of course, Arvind would always be there for her, but she knew very well that he would soon want to settle down in life with Nisha and Khushi would never want to trouble him anymore.

Arnav was desperate to talk to Khushi. He was worried for her. Arnav was totally shaken by her "Goodbye over the phone call. And her phone number didn't exist anymore. Was she alright? Arnav was restless knowing not what to do. She had even deleted her Facebook account. He even mailed her, but got no reply. Now the only way to talk to her was to go to her home. Arnav felt ashamed, he didn't have the courage to go to her home. But he was left with no other choice. He just wanted to make sure that Khushi was fine.
Arnav rang the doorbell and nervously waited for the door to be opened. Khushi's aunt opened the door. She didn't seem in a very good mood.
"Kh-Khushi?" Arnav managed to speak.
"Who are you?" she asked in anger.
"Arnav..." he said weakly, "Khushi's friend"
"There's no Khushi here! Go away!" she yelled.
"Aunty please... I know she is here... Please let me meet her once..."
"Don't you understand!! I don't know who you are talking about!"
Just then Khushi's uncle came and dragged Arnav out of the gate slamming the door on his face.
Arnav was shivering. He was stunned. He felt ashamed, and weak... and guilty. Did they get to know everything about the abortion? Are they angry with me? And Khushi? She didn't even speak to me... They could have let me meet her once. I know only I can make Khushi feel better. I know her better than anyone else!
Arnav came out of the memories. He chuckled through his tears. Maybe I didn't know her at all! The fact was that Khushi had never got the abortion done. And Arnav was unaware about it for all these years till only a few days ago when he had got to know that Arohi was his daughter. I could never understand you, Khushi...
Arnav's link of thoughts was broken by the notification of a Facebook message he received.
Hi
Arnav was shocked to see who the sender was.
