Yes very true. Both completely different renditions. Amazing because it is the same song.

This tune was composed by S.D. Burman for Guru Dutt's 'Baharein phir bhi aayegi', then he suffered a heart attack and was replaced by O.P. Nayyar.

The movie itself was supposed to star Guru Dutt but was shelved due to his untimely death, and then remade with Dharmendra. Burmanda then used the tune for Navketan's Jewel Thief.

This song sounds really different but equally enjoyable in Rafi's incomparable voice

I was imagining Guru Dutt singing inside a train while listening to this song. 🤩 Thank you so much for posting this here. Never heard Rafi's version of this song before. It's beautiful and melodious.

Anyways, here's another Burman da song which I remember I heard it in a radio program many years ago and since then it has been one of my favorite songs. I do feel this could be a lesser known or not so popular song too in today's era.

The song is Kahin na ja from Bade dil wala, & the music is by Panchamda, R.D. Burman. S.D. Burman (his father) was usually referred to as Burmanda. Sorry if my post. wasn't clear smiley9.

This is a beautiful song from Bade dil wala. I remember hearing this one on radio very frequently. The movie itself it a gender-bent version of a very popular 60s hit Film, Kati Patang starring Asha Parekh and Rajesh Khanna. Rishi Kapoor plays Asha Parekh's role, swapping identities with the son-in-law of the family who he meets by chance and who dies in an unfortunate accident. Kati Patang has the same storyline with Asha Parekh being the one to assume to false identity of the family's widow.

Hi Lizzie, thanks for the tag, interesting thread!

Not sure if anyone here has seen the movie, 99 Songs, by AR Rahman. He composed the music too. There's one song that really stood out to me and gave me chills when it played towards the end of the movie.

Sharing it here cuz I don't think the album got the recognition it deserved — just look at the low view count on YT and the lack of discussion on this forum. For what it's worth, the male lead won the award for best male debut that year.

Kishore Kumar & Lata Mangeshkar - Kafila (1952) - 'lehron se poochh lo'

Music: Husnlal Bhagatram

Lyrics: Vrajendra Gaur

See these lyrics and listen to that silky voice of Lata... and the expressive Kishor kumar's singing style. Such a tender, lovely song! The lilt in Lata's voice, and also the most beautiful lyrics! I heard it for the first time just now! Sharing it with all of you!

phir bhi yakin naa ho to, phir bhi yakin naa ho to

sharamaye agar phul to,sharamaye agar phul to

phir bhi yakin naa ho to, phir bhi yakin naa ho to

hasarat hamari ek hai, arman ek hain

aji araman ek hain

yu ham juda juda hain, magar jaan ek hai

magar jaan ek hai

jhukti huyi najar ke, jhukti huyi najar ke

phir bhi yakin naa ho to, phir bhi yakin naa ho to

Wow Lizzie, Beautiful thought in creating this topic.

Sharing one of my favourite ones here, the Carpenters' Song: Yesterday Once More

The lyrics stay true through the time change and hit your heart bringing a soft smile on your lips. Such simple words, a very simple thought but so very true for every being.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pteksK4GtCE

And then this beautiful picturised rendition has come which fits so perfectly for Audrey and the immortal beauty of scenes in Roman Holiday...... Every time one watches, it's genuinely yesterday once more.

Oh my goodness, what a song! There, Tabu merely swayed like a floral petal, and the rain added beauty to the music's mystical quality!
