शुभ नवरात्रि 🙏
The period of Maha Panchami to Bijaya Dashami is of a huge significance for Bengalis around the world, who celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm and fervor. People bring the idol of Goddess Durga at home or at Pandals and worship the Goddess in West Bengal, Kolkata, Assam, Odisha, Bihar and Tripura.
The world was under threat from the evil buffalo demon Mahishasura, that no man or god could defeat. To vanquish the demon, Durga emerged from the collective energies of all the gods. Each of her ten arms brandished the deadliest weapon of each god. On the seventh day (saptami) of Durga Puja, the goddess as Devi Kaalratri started her epic battle against Mahishasura which ended with his death on Vijaya Dashami (the 10th day). This symbolises the winning of good, and freeing the world from oppression of the evil forces.
