Lyrics
Yā itheṃ Lakṣmaṇā bāndha kuṭī
Yā Mandākinicyā taṭa-nikaṭīṃ
Right here, Lakṣmaṇa, build a hut
In this vicinity of Mandākinī's bank
Citrakūṭa hā, heṃça tapo-vana
Yetha nāndatī sādhaka muni-jana
Sakhe Jānakī, kari avalokana
Hī nisarga-śobhā bhulavi diṭhī
This Citrakūṭa, this austere forest
Here dwell aspiring hermit-folk
Friend, Janaka's daughter, do survey it!
This nature-elegance beguiles vision
Palāśa phulale, bilva vāṃkale
Bhallātaka phala-bhāreṃ lavale
Disati na yāṃnā mānava śivale
Nā saila latāñcī kuṭheṃ miṭhī
Flame-of-the-forest blooming, bael bent
Oriental cashew drooping with fruit
No sign that humans brushed them
Nowhere loose is the plants' entwining
Kitī phulāṃçe raṅga gaṇāve?
Kuṇā sugandhā kāya mhaṇāveṃ?
Mūka ramyatā sahaza duṇāveṃ
Yetāça kūjaneṃ karṇa-puṭīṃ
How many flowers' colours to count?
Which fragrance to identify as what?
Silent fascination spontaneously doubles
As soon as chirping reaches ear-cups
Kuṭheṃ kāḍhitī kokila susvara
Niḷā sūra to çaḍhavi mayūra
Ratneṃ tolita nija-paṅkhāṃvara
Saṃmiśra nāda to uṃça vaṭīṃ
Somewhere, cuckoos sing pure notes
That blue peacock raises his voice
Weighing jewels on his fanned feathers
That noise symphonizes high in the banyan
Śākhāśākhāṃvarī mohaḷe
Madha tyāñcyāṃtila khālīṃ nithaḷe
Vana-saṃjīvaka amṛta sagaḷeṃ
Ṭhevitī makṣikā bharuna ghaṭīṃ
On branch after branch, beehives
Honey from them drips down
Forest-reviving, all that ambrosia
The bees keep in filled pots
Hāṃ Saumitre susajja sāvadha
Disalī lapalī kṣaṇāṃta pāradha
Siddha asū de sad'aiva āyudha
Yā vanīṃ śvāpadāṃ nāhiṃ tuṭī
Oh, Sumitrā's son, be well-equipped and alert
The hunt's seen and hidden in moments
Always let a weapon be ready on hand
In this forest there's no shortage of wild animals
Jānakisāṭhīṃ latikā kalikā
Tujhiyā mājhyā bhakṣya sāyakāṃ
Ubhaya lābhale vanāṃta ekā
Poṃçaloṃ yetha tī śubhaci ghaṭī
For Janaka's daughter, plants and buds
For your arrows and mine, edibles
Both we found in one forest
We arrived at a quite auspicious hour!
Zamava satvarīṃ kāṣṭheṃ kaṇakhara
Uṭaja yā sthaḷīṃ ubhavūṃ sundara
Śākhā-pallava antharunī vara
Rekhuṃ yā citra ye gagana-paṭī
Collect quickly sturdy logs
A beautiful hut on this spot we'll erect
Branch and blossom making bedding, thereon
Come, we'll sketch a picture on this sky-cloth
