Disclaimer: This song is the epitome of body-shaming and I do not endorse it at all, however, the acting was hilarious enough even though the lyrics were not!

Song: Yenna Samaiyalo
Film: Unaal mudiyum thambi (1988)
Music: Ilaiyaraja
Lyrics: Pulamaipithan & Ilaiyaraaja
Singers: S.P Balasubramaniam, K.S Chitra, Sunandha
Actors: Kamalahasan, Manorama, Dhaarini
I love the clever wordplay in this one, the way kitchen ingredients emerge out of the Sargams..😆
Ga Ri Ga Ri... Karigaigalum yenge? (where are the vegetables), Karuvepplia yenge (Where are the curry leaves?)
Dha Ni Dha Ni .. Dhaniya irukku (here is the coriander...)😆
Also love the way it's set to Carnatic ragamalikai while Kamal and his sister tease their sister-in-law Manorama's abysmal cooking and proceed to cook themselves while making a mess of the kitchen. 😆
This movie is also excellent, one of K. Balachander's best (the actress Seetha is so pretty ), do see it if you haven't already. The tussle between Kamal and his father who's a traditionalist musician (wonderfully played by Gemini Ganeshan) is beautifully portrayed.

Some highlights:
haan, kahin 'sa' hai, kahin 're' hai, kahin 'ga-ma-pa-dha-ni' hai
kahin bageshvari ki behen, kahin jayjayvanti ki naani hai,
ye bojha saat suron ka humse, uthataa bhi to kyon uthataa
hume ek sur bhi hilanaa na aaya
Gale ko garm kar le (and he gets a match lit at his throat )
Then he breaks into an Angrezi aitem
And then goes on to a rendition of Three Blind Mice
PS: Did Hemantda really compose this? Or did he just tell Kishoreda to improvise? 😆

kamata hoon bohot kuch par kamayi doob jaati hai
kuch income tax le jata kuch biwi udati hai
aa teri in saadiyon ne, arre jamfaron ne maar daala hai
teri diwali ki khatir mera nikla diwala hai
main kadka hoon jeb se
tu scent kapdon mein lagati hai
