A hard rain's gonna fall....

Ahh the rains - the bane of my existence and the object of all my romantic fantasies! 😆 (Bridgerton fans will get this reference)

Growing up in a city where it did not just rain, it poured with venom made me hate the rains growing up. I would associate them with unending traffic, clogged potholes, dirty puddles, the smell of wet clothes that took days to dry 🤢, public transit that came to a standstill, and taking hours to get home from anywhere. To me, rains were meant to be enjoyed (if that) at home with a cup of tea and hot snacks, some great music and a good book.

It's strange how perspectives on seasons can change when you move. In places where the rainy season didn't actually exist, I found myself yearning for the rains. And now winter isn't my favorite season when it used to be when back home.

I do have some fond memories of early school dismissals, taking the long route home with friends just so we could splash in the muddy puddles and be free to ruin our uniforms, because they would be washed on the weekend anyways! 😆

So yeah, I have a love-hate relationship with rains, but there are some things that I just love about rains -

  • Petrichor
  • The way everything around simply sparkles - clean and green after a shower
  • The first streak of sunshine after the rain and the rainbow it brings with it.
  • Having the freedom to get drenched without consequences. 😆
  • Enjoying a hot cuppa with someone special 😳

Here's a rain song that doesn't just spell romance, it brings back fond memories of that precious first meeting

Interesting.. How people from same city can have a totally different take. It’s not rain has not interrupted things in someone’s life somewhere or others.. but I have such fond memories of rain.. Here are the best 3 .. first was what you mentioned.. rains/floods - the annual thing. Thing is this led to some of best fun times for me. My dad/uncle etc would take us (my siblings/cousins) etc to frolic in the rain / walk through high waters.. and then a sumptuous brunch… oh the times… then we all waited for Powai lake to flood…. This was because it was a long awaited family picnic. As soon as we got the news.. we all headed (large extended family) to bathe in what was basically a waterfall of the water coming over the retaining wall of the lake… so we went… bathed under the water fall and ofc picnic and then some restaurant for brunch… oh the days… and finally Bhushi Dam in lonavala was the last piece of the puzzle. As soon as it flooded it was yet another family picnic time… This one my older cousins loved as it got them to drive the family cars and off we headed…. The hot vada pavs (older cousins sneaking off to get a beer) etc… Fun times and simply amazing memories….. In fact Karjat was infamous for its food on the way there… 😆

So to start us off… a fun rain song :)

The lyrics

In the twilight glow I see her

Blue eyes cryin' in the rain

When we kissed goodbye and parted

I knew we'd never meet again

Love is like a dyin' ember

Only memories remain

Through the ages I'll remember

Blue eyes cryin' in the rain

Some day when we meet up yonder

We'll stroll hand in hand again

In a land that knows no partin'

Blue eyes cryin' in the rain
