Part 2: The girl who was never hungry.

"You don't need to worry about milk, I have asked Banshi to send milk every morning and evening for one week." The pandit ji assured Rajashri as he started the preparations. Rajashri smiled assuredly at the pandit ji. She turned around to see the family members coming one by one from the first floor.

Everyone had to wake up early for the puja. The puja was to go for one whole week and at the end of the puja, they would donate food and cloth to the poor.

Aryaman compromised with his mother. He would not perform any puja but he would donate to the poor at the end of the week. He didn't see anything wrong with donating to the needy.

Rajashri looked at Aryaman with pleading eyes as though a last try. Aryaman ignored it and went to the kitchen. He poured himself a glass of water and nearly reached the kitchen door when he heard a familiar voice from outside.

"Panditji"

Aryaman turned to see the person but just then Panditji's helper came in front and blocked his view.

"Aree! Beta! You came at the right time. What happened? Did come you alone? I thought your father would come."

Aryaman could not see the face because of the old guy, but he saw a pair of small hands holding a large aluminum milk container. He was sure it was the same girl as yesterday, he just needed to see the face to confirm it.

"Madan Kaka. Papa was tired. So Mohan and I came instead." The small voice sounded proud.

The old man walked even forward to look outside, now blocking everything from Aryaman's view. Aryaman gave up on looking at the face and walked towards the exit.

He could still hear the old man's rambling even after he was out of the kitchen.

"Oh! I see. Mohan is also with you. You wait here... I will bring the special brass container for the milk. Now.. where did I put the..."

Aryaman reached the hall and saw the preparations with an unimpressed eye. Maa and Kundan-uncle were talking about something. Ananya and Srijala Aunty were already sleeping while sitting. Sid and Ansh were watching something on Sid's mobile. Pia was sitting on Dadi's lap.

"Arya!!" His mother called him. "Are you still insisting that you will not sit in the puja?"

Aryaman continued to drink his water as if to answer that question. Rajashri went away to not cause a scene. He glanced at the kitchen. The girl was holding the brass container still onto which the old man poured milk from the aluminum container. Through the stream of flowing milk, he finally saw her face. Smiling brightly at the foaming milk in the brass pot as though seeing something truly exquisite. A few drops of milk splashed on her face making her chuckle. Children do get happy with little things. Or maybe it was just her, who was always happy. The milk stopped flowing. He could see the old man saying something to the girl. Aryaman saw her wipe the milk from her face and nod cheerfully.

Dadi looked at the direction Aryaman was staring. She saw a little girl with pigtails near the kitchen door. She looked around Pia's age. Her round doe-like eyes were so beautiful...Radiant... full of life.

"Aww! I didn't know that Dwaraka had such a cute little milkmaid. Isn't that right? Arya?" She said looking at the girl.

Aryaman shrugged at the comment and gave his empty glass to a servant who passed by.

"Arya, Why don't you give one laddoo to that girl, after all, she came this early for our puja," Dadi said as she forwarded the plate full of laddoos towards him. He looked skeptically at Dadi. Was this a ploy to make him involved in the puja? Dadi had a twinkle in her eyes. Yes, she was definitely trying to make him involved.

"Not interested. Make Pia do it.." Dadi sighed and asked Pia to do the chore.

Aryaman climbed up the stairs as he saw Pia go to the kitchen with a laddoo in her hand.

He leaned on the balcony and stared out, thinking nothing in particular. He looked down when he heard the children's voices from below.

"Mohan!" The girl in pigtails called out to her brother and handed him the laddoo.

"Laddoo!!" The little boy exclaimed in happiness! He hungrily took it but before he gobbled it he looked at his sister with an inquiring face. "What about you?"

He concentrated on the girl's face. She was still smiling brightly. Even before she opened her mouth, he tried to guess her answer.

"What about me? I am not hungry right now. If I eat anything now, I'll probably vomit." Proving Aryaman's guess right. He clicked his tongue in irritation. This girl thought only about others. She was not just a liar but also an idiot. He saw them walk toward the gate. The girl held the empty aluminum can by her waist. Her right hand was holding her brother's left hand. They reached the gate jumping and hopping cheerfully all the way.

"What are you looking at?" Meghna's voice came from behind.

The children were now far away. Aryaman turned around to see his sister who was ready for puja.

"Nothing"

"Really? You looked somewhat angry. As though you were angry at someone."

Aryaman thought of that stupid girl's smile and shook his head. He walked towards the sofa and opened the business newspaper, he needed to become rich and successful.

"Do you really hate Papa that much? You won't even sit for the puja."

"I don't waste my emotions over dead people." He said without even lifting his eyes from the newspaper.

"Papa is NOT dead" Meghna shouted.

"He is for me." He said with a tone of finality. He scanned the newspaper without getting affected. The share prices of JK tires increased. He might need to check it.

"I'll do the puja and bring back Papa" Meghna challenged.

"Even if he comes back, I'll not allow him to stay in our house with us."

"You can't do that!"

"I can. I'll buy back our house in my name and I will be in charge of that house. So, I won't allow him to set foot in my house." He muttered his plan while mentally noting down the shares he wanted to check. He and Meghna had the same fight many times already. He already knew that Meghna would break something and leave. This became their toxic routine.

Meghna threw a glass and left in frustration. Aryaman looked at the broken pieces of glass and sighed. Meghna was just like his mother. She too loved that person who hurt them. She didn't even know the full truth. He knew. Only He knew. That person lied to them. That person abandoned them. He would never forgive that person.

He looked at the road from where those children left. He remembered that girl's smile. It was the second time he had seen her after coming to Dwaraka and again, he didn't like her

That stupid liar girl. He really hated all liars. She was able to smile that cheerfully because she didn't know. She didn't know anything about the world. Because she believed in sacrifices in love. Her smile resurfaced in his mind again like a chewing gun stuck on someone's shoe. He kicked a piece of glass in irritation and continued reading about the share market.

"Stupid liar girl" He muttered under his breath.

***

The third time he saw her, he continued to not like her.

She came in the evening carrying a fully-filled aluminum milk can half her size over her head. Balancing the can with their left hand and holding her brother's hand with her other hand, she walked slowly towards the mansion. They were playing badminton on the lawn when Aryaman saw her again. It was an after-effect he didn't notice, but his swings had a little bit of unnecessary force in them after seeing her.

The children disappeared around the corner. It felt like no one saw them except him. Was he too sensitive about that girl? The image of that girl's smile, which irritated him by popping up in his mind many times today, came back with full clarity. He hit the cock with extra force and it flew outside the garden and got stuck on the branch of a tree.

"Arya!!" complained Ananya.

"Sorry," he muttered.

"What should we do now?" Sid asked. He and Ansh also stopped their game to look at the cock.

Meghna came near and looked up. "Oh! it seems you can also do something wrong." She taunted.

"You guys wait here... I think I can get it from the balcony."

Aryaman went inside the mansion and walked towards the stairs. He heard Dadi talk to someone. "Oh! You are such a cute little girl. Isn't it tiring to carry this heavy container and walk this far?"

"No... Maa used to say that if we have willpower then we can do anything... Dwarkadeshji also lifted a whole hill on his little finger. Right?" Aryaman glanced at the Kitchen as he heard the answer. This kid talks about things way more mature things than her age. Her eyes were bright and again she had that irritating smile plastered on her face. He climbed the stairs to get away from that smile. He could hear Dadi asking her name. But he left before he heard anything.

He climbed the tree carefully from the balcony. He was somewhat nervous but slowly he inched toward the cock. And finally, he reached the cock. He pulled out the cock and threw it at the garden. He saw Sid catch it. He tried to go back to the balcony. As he was slowly inching towards the balcony, he looked down towards the kitchen. The girl came out with the empty can on her waist and a laddoo in her hand. Dadi probably gave her. She gave the laddoo to her brother. When the brother offered her the laddoo, she shook her head. He heard her say, "I am not hungry." He saw the same smile that he saw many times. He really hated that smile.

Maybe she sensed his intense gaze, because she suddenly looked up, her eyes searching. Despite the foliage concealing him, he held his breath, knowing she couldn't see him. She peered around the tree, clearly aware of his presence. Protectively holding her brother's hand, she urged, "Come, Mohan. Let's go!" He detected fear in her voice for the first time as they walked out of the gate. He slowly retreated toward the balcony, hidden but unable to tear his eyes away.

"What happened Bhai? Your mood seems a little better." Anshuman commented as he saw his brother coming with a slight smile on his face. His brother looked at him puzzled. Anshuman shrugged and continued to play with Sid, "No, it looked like you were smiling. Maybe Not."

"Of course not... Why would I smile without a reason?" Saying that he picked up his racket for the next match with Ananya.

He looked at the road. At least she was honest when she was scared.

Part 2 is also good. It's interesting that you wrote a story that focused on Krishna and Aryaman's childhood. It provides us a chance to look at certain things from different angle. I like the fact that Dadi liked Krishna in your story and called her cute little girl.
