With a no show and a bizarre twist, Nandini is hurtling towards a dead end
WITH everyone cashing in on the election fever in the country, the makers and the channel airing the political drama Desh Ki Beti: Nandini are strangely backtracking on the plot. The bizarre turns in the prime time serial even led to a no show recently. Instead of Nandini, the slot was filled with back- to- back promos of the channel's other TV shows, Bharat Ka Veer Putra: Maharana Pratap and Ek Nayi Pehchan.
There has been speculation for a while that Nandini is being yanked off the air.
Says a source, " They did not have anything to air in its place, so they just filled the slot with some promos. It was hilarious to find so many promos filling up the air time." The channel's spokesperson, however says, " On that day, there was a maha episode of Ek Nayi Pehchan." When told that there were only promos back- toback, the channel chose to not revert.
Nandini, which began airing in October, came as a breath of fresh air, as it boasted of a distinct identity with a political backdrop. Dwelling on elections, the show was in keeping with the current scenario in the country. It features Keerti Nagpure in the title role, along with Rafi Malik and Suhasini Mulay in key roles.
Adds the source, " The channel feels that Nandini has failed to garner high viewership ratings, so it is apparently being taken off the air." Ironically, Nandini initially stuck to the election backdrop, but over the past few weeks, it was dotted with twists and turns as it showed the political scion singing and dancing to Bollywood tracks.
The source further says, "They have been shooting its episodes just a day prior to the telecast and the story keeps changing according to the response, it receives from the channel folk. Things are very fluid right now."
Nandini's producer Rashmi Sharma preferred not to comment.
