Sangeeta Ghosh with husband Shailendra Singh Rajput
Sangeeta Ghosh took time off work to visit her husband, polo player Shailendra Singh Rajput, and also catch a few matches at the British Polo Day.
"I went for the matches both on Saturday and Sunday. It was a good experience. Watching a polo match is always thrilling and exciting. My husband was not playing this time, he was here to just attend the event. He was playing last week and he has some matches next week," says Sangeeta.
The actress did have a good time, meeting other friends and socialising. "We met a lot of friends, we were partying all through Saturday night at the Mehrangarh Fort, and on Sunday we had a party at Umaid Bhawan," she says.
Sangeeta, who is in a long-distance marriage with Shailendra for three years now, keeps stealing time off shooting for her TV show Hai Dil... Jee Le Zara to come watch her husband play. "The last time I had come for a polo match was at the beginning of this year. It was an exhibition match where my husband was playing. Ever since I met my husband, I have been visiting Rajasthan during the polo season," she shares.
And polo is an acquired passion for Sangeeta, who knew nothing about the game before she met Shailendra. She admits, "Before meeting him, I didn't even know that something like polo existed. After we met, I started going to the games and then I met all the players, his friends. Polo is a very small family and they are all friends. I began attending the games, as many as I could, and it is good fun. But polo is very risky as well." At this point we ask her if she ever tried playing polo herself, and a laughing Sangeeta promptly replies, "Uh, no, never!"
Sangeeta met her husband while trying to learn horse-riding in Jaipur, and we asked her if she got a chance to ride a horse while over the weekend. "No, my trip was so short, I hardly had time for anything. There is also a set time when you can ride horses here, you can't ride them anytime and anywhere. They are taken good care of and they have a proper time and routine," she adds.
