Lajjo's Actions - Right or Wrong?!

So, while watching today's episode, I kept thinking of Lajjo's actions and the validity behind them. Don't get me wrong, I totally cheered her on yesterday and was so happy that she was unlike usual self-sacrificing heroines and actually stood up for what she believed in! But after watching today, I got a more in-my-face realization of how her act has affected everyone around her. It almost made her decision look a bit selfish. The snap decision made in a moment of anger literally tore down her entire family - from her parent's financial instability to their loss of respect in the village to the fact that her sisters' futures are now shrouded in uncertainty.

So long story short, I am very confused on how I feel about her act of rebellion. I love Lajjo's character and I love what the show is trying to show. But take this same situation into the real world, and I am not sure if I would be similarly ecstatic about it. No matter what we say about right and wrong, the sad truth of the matter is that we have to live in society and our family too has to live in society, so we have to bow down to norms and societal rules. What do you guys think? Was Lajjo right in what she did or was she a bit hasty in taking that decision? And if you think she's right, then what of her family and the misfortunes that await them? I really wanna know what everyone thinks because I am so torn about the entire scenario! On one hand, I want to cheer Lajjo for being self-righteous, but on the other hand I want to berate her for being so careless and only thinking of the short-term :/

You are right.
Your points to describe her also are good but if she would have thought after her family and everything else she would sacrificed herself for her whole life...
One more thing during the garland ceremony the groom did not bend at all though Lajjo was standing with the garland in front of him this somehow describe how rude of a person he's...

agree with you, she was right but if we think about future consequences then her sudden decision was not right for her family but in the end i want to support her cause if she would not do that then she would suffer in rest of her life and in some extent her family too.

yes you are right, but this stupid have to stop from some where. lets say she is being selfish. what she did is the right thing to do, it may hurt her and her family now, but in the long run...it will give more village girls the courage to stand up for their own rights.
before you know it more and more stupid grooms will be left in the alter and slowly their wouldnt be alot of stupid grooms around.

it has to start from someone...and Lajji has taken that selfless step for other girls in the future not to face such problems

This is exactly what I was thinking. In the long run Lajo is better off not being married into that family, one which values monetary things more than a human being. And yes in the long run her family would also suffer as how could they be happy knowing how miserable their daughter is.

agree with u but think of it this way, her parents would have to continously struggle for money to meet those peoples demands even after the wedding

Technically speaking, I think she was right in her own rights. As far as her parents are concerned, I don't know what to say. I'm that girl whose brought up by a bunch of nannies, I hardly ever interacted with my parents as a kid, and now I do, yes alot. So I have no clue on how to judge her parents. But I am sure of one thing - my parents would have stood by my side, cause no matter how busy they are or the ignorance I suffered as a kid, no matter what I did my parents did support me. They stood by my side - through thick and thin.

Wasn't Ram Bachan portrayed to be this understanding father who understood that the in-laws were money hungry and they're demands would increase until it sucked them dry. YES, HE WAS. Isn't Saraswati a typical village mother who loves her kids but society to her matters more, YES SHE IS! Though RB is justified at some point of time, and Saraswati to me is too much of a drama queen - yes I do understand the situation. I do. But it's her friggin daughters marriage that just got voided.

Laajo's is right in her own rights cause she saved her family literally, as she said quote unquote the dowry demands were never ending. Yes, and they would suck her family dry. Oh, darn it, some years from now everyones gonna forget the incident and her sisters will be happily married to some village dumbf**ks.

Laajo literally sacrificed herself. She could have marriage that wierd mustache dude and started popping out tots.. Not caring about how her family managed providing to the demands, she could have gone ahead and succumbed to whatever the society wanted.

The village honor, psst puhlease.. Yeah, as Dadaji said such cases are so familiar, how can Laajo ruin their village honor by getting jilted at the altar. If that was the case then yeah, their comment lies invalid coz to lose honor there has to be honor left there to lose, and if one bride getting jilted at the altar causes the loss of that pride. Think about it - where is that pride? Cause Laajo is certainly not the first one.
