The show managed to get a decent start and has been climbing the TRP charts ever since its launch. The concept of the show is completely different from other shows on primetime television. It is about a girl who has a unique gift to find water in the desert and falls in love with a man who belongs to rival village. It is the story of the two villages Talsagra and Rashipur.
The backdrop of the story deals with the water shortage in Kutch and its neighbouring areas. The story line is interesting as this issue has never been taken up on television. The costumes and sets have being designed aptly to replicate Kutch. The story is loosely based on the National Award winning film Ek Chaadar Maili Si.
Manasi Parekh is competent as Gulaal. She plays a traditional girl and looks focused on her character. Raahil Azam, who is known for his famous role Hatim, plays the obedient and sweet Vasant. The introductory scene of both the leading actors was impressive, especially of Vasant's, which was shot on the sand dunes of Jaisalmer.
The show is produced by Origin Spheres who have made great shows like Saat Phere and Balika Vadhu and its good to see that the makers have tried something different on primetime. The cinematography of the show is something to watch out for. The show has generous doses of family drama and the chemistry between the two leads looks great.
Verdict: Gulaal has its own vibrant colours
Rating:***
