Water! get some water he's passing out ", yelled Seema .A bottle was rolled her way by one on the commandos, and she sprinkled some cold water on his face. Seema patted his stubble cheek and he sided his narrowed eyes as he caught a hooded Ravi being shoved out of the room. Seema looked down at Dutta in panic the sight of his blood on the floor. She heard the ambulance sirens screeched outside, but she cried and continued to keep Dutta awake every time his eyes swam. Dear god hope the paramedics arrive swiftly.. and her face moved from Dutta tothe door expecting the arrival of medical help, any moment!

Nana Tavde arrived in a hurry tore his way through the throng of armed commandos. They knew who he was and one command to let him through, as he was the hostage's father allowed him access to the venue of the serious incident. Seema wept helplessly as she pointed to Dutta. Nana visibly shaken sank to the floor beside his daughter and palmed Dutta's hair back from his forehead.Tears rolled down his old haggard face. He sniffed and looked down in deep regret at this man whose questioned birthright suddenly made him blue blooded. Here lay wounded , every drop of his blood showed integrity and loyalty with people he stood for . Nana's initial anger at Dutta abated as his first gut reaction was to hurl blame at Dutta,for he was the guarantor to Ravi's reputation. But in view of what Nana saw now, Dutta had saved his daughters life by sticking his own neck on the line. Nana held Dutta's hand panic stricken! he has to live ,otherwise he would not be able to look his friends wife Shakuntla Shree Ram Patil in the eye.

Eventually the paramedics arrived and Dutta was rolled on to the stretcher. Temporary medical attention was provided that prevented further loss of blood. Nana Tavde opted to travel in the ambulance with Dutta, held on to the hand of the boy he always wanted to be his son . He mopped Dutta's moistened brow. Seema travelled behind in her father's car and cried when at one point she saw the ambulance that carried a wounded Dutta to the hospital, crossed the commando armed vehicle that carried Ravi to prison . Seema was an emotional wreck , she was unclear who she cried bitterly over, was it Dutta or Ravi? Before she tackled her grief fully, she realized that Dutta's family needed to be informed about the outcome. Nana was reluctant and wanted Seema to ring Nakusha to inform her. But Seema refused flatly that she didn't have the guts to inform them . Besides, since he was the one who had spoken to aye Sahib regards her kidnapping issue , hence he should be the one to break the news to them. Nana dreaded it , he felt he had let down his friend's family .Dutta groaned in the ambulance and sounded his mothers name Aye.. feebly . BP and heart monitor beeped as it kept a digital record on his pulse rate. The paramedic, checked Dutta's finger nails which gradually turned pale.

After some thoughtful study of the scrolls Purhoitji concluded that the any day the followin week would be auspicious for marriage would take place. Kala , and the two elders conferred along with Baji and Roops , smiled and accepted the pandit's stance ,who also explained,to just let him know and he'll be there to conduct the marriage.

As Baji sees the pandit off ,the phone suddenly rang and tore through the slight murmurings of the family involved in pre wedding planning. Naku leapt towards the phone in view of the fact that aye Sahib was engaged in conversation with tai and kanta mai. With the phone pressed against her ear ,her whole face contracted in pain and a loud scream followed that took away the winds out of the families sails. The phone slipped out of Naku's hand and her knees sank to the shiny floor of patil nivas!

"sahibbb! Sahib!!!! rang her hysterical screams .Baji ran and nearly slipped as he grabbed the phone that dangled off the hook like a pendulum. Nana stiffly explained the incident to Baji and bade him, that he ensured careful handling of the matter. Baji shell shocked nodded as he watched how the family rallied around Naku who sat on folded legs on the floor and calmed her down so she could report who phoned ?and about whom? Baji first walked over to her mother, put his arms around her shoulders and broke the news to her

"aye Sahib , while saving Seema s life from Ravi's gun Dutta got shot.. he s being whisked to the hospital as we speak" . There was pin drop silence in the first instance from all, as Baji delivered the awful news ,bar the audible sobbing from Dhani on the floor. Then came Kanta mai's loud wail.

"my Dutta, my child! as like a demented woman! she ran to the life size statue of Bappa and cried bitterly as she pressed her forehead on the surface of the altar

" it's that why you brought me into my child's into my life so you could you take him away from me, Bappa? this mother hasn't even fully set eyes on her sons face! surely you cannot be so stone hearted to my cry! did you not love your Parvati maa ?Bappa how your parents were your whole universe for you! listen to my cries !this amother's universe is her son Dutta! Kanta mai shoulders shook as exhausted she rested the side of her face on the altar. Krishna ran to her and sank beside mai his arm around her shoulder and with bold eyes that stared in the bold benign eyes of the domestic deity, and comforts

"mai have faith in the gods ,nothing will happen to Dutta bhau.. blessed are those mothers whose son is like Dutta patil, he says as he reaches out for aye Sahib's hand as she too stood behind him in prayer before Bappa. Krishna helped Kanta mai up from the altar and gave the devastated family a look. They all needed to be gathered , most of all his tai Naku who still sat on the floor, hugged her knees and hid her rested face on her knees . Krishna walked over, looked down at her and said

" Naku tai, I am going over to lord Krishna s temple , want to come with me? Naku moved up her head and looked up at the lad Krishna ,into his tear stained eyes and simply hauled herself up as Krishna held on to her hand and they both walked down the long corridor as if in a trance.

Baji called after Naku , but aye Sahib stopped him

"let them go Baji .. it's what they believe in. Meanwhile we need to get to the hospital to see what happening,".. commanded aye Sahib , and both of Dutta's mothers sat weeping next to each other holding on to each other's hand as if to draw strength from each other. Before Baji got into the drivers seat , Baji told Roops to stay behind in case people ring..

Bhaskar , babloo.. as every one referred to him in jest within the services, reached the hospital before Dutta's ambulance did and ensured that expert staff was ready and waiting to atten to the best man in his services. Tough nut this Dutta was, he could he imagine, how he must have stood up and defended their patron Nana Tavde's daughter. Must have been two things with Dutta ,thought Bhaskar , one rendering his duty and the other loyalty shown towards his father's family friend. Quite a figure this Dutta was, bit of aura around him.. too saving a damsel in distress. A modern day knight in shining armour, mused Bhaskar.

Dutta was wheeled into the reception ,with Nana Tavde by his side. The old man looked very anxious as he clutched on to Dutta's hand. His smartest boy looked semi conscious, thought Bhaskar, as he saw a bag of saline drip too, wheeled by a paramedic along side his bed .Men in white coats stopped both Bhaskar and Nana near the consulting room,before they opened the swung doors

" I am sorry , from here we take over.. don't worry he's in expert hands ,and the needful will be done after examination.. you're welcome to wait along these chairs " said the man in white coat. The door was swung open and Dutta was wheeled along into the emergency cabin.

Baji, aye sahib , Kanta mai rolled down the corridor and were met by an extremely shamefaced Nana who apologised profusely to aye Sahib.

"I am happy Nana Sahib that my son has a great sense of honour and integrity.. he does my husband's name proud too " said aye Sahib graciously . Seema suddenly came in and ran crying into aye Sahib's arms ,and wept violently . Both of Dutta's mother calmed and consoled her ,while Baji went hurriedly to the water dispenser and passed glasses of water to the distressed family that waited out side the examining room. They didn't have much choice except that they pause outside..

Inside Dutta was stripped to the waist as surgeons poured their heads over him and gloved clad pale fingers prodded ,poked and squeezed parts of his hairy sweaty , blood smeared abdomen. The nurse, wiped his brow. Dutta moved his head from side to side and groaned. The surgeon whispered to the nurse

"Oxygen mask he's sinking" .. and pointed to the bleeping ECG monitor.

Krishna sat outside the mandir on a small raised boundary. With tears in his eyes he played the basuri every note of his played notes dwindled upon his grief.. and carried his sobs across to the grounds of the hospital. Lost in worship and prayer to the lord of the soulful flute .. young Kirshna's fingers moved up and down the holes of the flute.. Naku knelt before lord Krishna and the sound of their very own Krishnas flute warmed her heart and she cried out in prayer .. and a flower suddenly fell from lord Krishna's garland on to her hand she pressed her forehead and gently held the flower in her cupped hands

" save him lord !save him ! ward off harm out of his way! and grant him safe passage.. Naku prayed

At the hospital Dutta heart' began to sank and shock cardiac jolts were pressed on either side of his hairy chest.. once stabilized, finally the surgeons pressed the small forceps towards the gashed abdominal side of his body..

arghhh! he roared and clenched his jaw and cut his finger tips into the side of his pillow case..

The notes of krishna's flute glide into the OT...bullet is dropped into the kidney tray.. from the side of his torso.. the notes of the flute continued under the finger tips of the young Krishna,

arghhh! bellowed Dutta as he threw his head to the opposite side of his shoulder from where the second bullet was pulled out ... Krishna continued, played hymns to lord Krishna on his flute..

ahhh , flopped Dutta's head relieved on one side of his pillow...

Krishna suddenly stopped and tip toed up the steps of the lord Krishna mandir and on reaching the courtyard bowed and felt the courtyard with his forehead.. his heart cried... thank you lord Krishna ! my heart feels lighter. He held his bansuri tilted across his chest and walked over to Naku who just sat propped up by the pillars of the temple, the flower cupped in her hands Krishna offered his hand to Naku

"come tai , I think it's safe for us to go to the hospital now " .. said Krishna with a confident smile. Soon after both come down the mandir steps , arm in arm .. with the flower held in her hands,Naku s heart was less worried than before. Hurriedly they both slowly climbed up the stairs to the hospital's entrance.

Both Naku and Krishna found their family devastated before the OT. Naku had decided that she would maintain a brave front rather than going to pieces. The wait just on and finally the surgeon came out and informed Dutta's family that both the bullets had been extracted. One lodged in the side of his gut , and the other just missed the chest cavity and sliced the flesh of the upper part of shoulder. The information about his wounds clearly disturbed his family especially Kanta mai. But there were plenty present who comforted and consoled her. Naku restrained herself from going to porthole in the door of the recovery room. As the surgeon's face clouded and conveyed that a problem prevailed.

"although procedure has been successful , I don't wish to keep you all in the dark about his fatality or survival rate" he explained seriously. Nana Tavde showed impatience and demanded clarification.

"can you please get to the point? it's imperative that Dutta's life is saved , he means a lot to lots of people " shook nana's voice.

"basically all I am saying is quite simply, that Dutta has lost a lot of blood. He needs blood . Unfortunately we haven't found his match in the blood bank here". Kanta bai was terribly upset she had thought her child , her son Dutta was safe and out of danger ,but it seemed now to her that her punishment for abandoning him as a baby is still lashed out on her back. Unable to with stand the emotional strain she left the group and headed towards the Durga goddess worship point in the foyer.. Nana though strained by desperation continued his protest

"well then get a move on! and get blood from the adjoining blood banks! do your job! bellowed Nana down the corridor at the poor surgeon and Naku gulped and with a broken voice

"doctor Sahib all we are trying to say is please give us other available option , we are ready to give blood .." Naku suggested. The idea certainly sparked a new lease of life in all, and they crowded around the surgeon with great gusto to be tested for a match. The doctor felt he was snowed under and said firmly as he reminded them, this was a hospital and not some demonstration!

"ok calm down please, yes the young lady took the words from my mouth. If you queue up at the reception and grab a form and fill it to the best of your ability giving in as much detail about your self as possible, and we take it from there. Baji found it hard to keep his anger under control and yelled at the doctor with a threatening finger in his face

"eyeee doctor , forget the form ! cut the drama! here's my arm pierce it and draw every drop on my blood and save my brother! His voice cracked and soon after Kala , Krishna , Naku , aye , and Roops followed! their bare arms stuck out in his face!. The poor surgeon was badly shaken by the emotional drama of Dutta's family ! but he ushered the protesting relatives towards the transfusion and phlebotomy department..

Kanta bai fixed her eyes upon the goddess Durga. In utter obeisance , her heart and eyes cried a thousand tears and supplications for the life of her son. Mother goddess! you have to forgive my sin of being a careless mother.. she begged tearfully , she had done so at the time, to save the life of her son Dutta.. left it to the goddess, to took charge of Dutta's life ,and you blessed mother did.. he came to be adopted by shree ram patil and his wife. Now !Kanta , cried , if not for her sake, than save Dutta for the sake of his blood mother.. she pleaded before her goddess ,her forehead against the altar. So involved was she in her petitions that she failed to notice the flower that fell beside her folded elbow!

Disappointed Dutta's family stood huddled in the waiting room. None of their blood groups matched. Baji hugged his Kala tai and sobbed silently and bitterly

"why would our blood match with his tai.. we are not of his blood line after all are we ? kala calmed her baby brother

"don't say that Baji , you know that s not true. What does it matter if he is not our babaa's real son and not born of aye Sahib.. he will always be our bhau"

"but tai , deep down he never accepted that! you know that yourself ,he's always resisted it! complained Baji in his tai's embrace. Kala squeezed his back and consoled him

" who care's what Dutta thinks Baji! He feels the contrary, he's stubborn ! he knows we are the only family he has!.. Kala bit her lip as she felt the trauma allowed embittered panic to set in, among them. Out of interest she noted and found Dutta's real mother missed from the rest of the family. The surgeon arrived and wanted to know if there were any more of Dutta's family apart from his family ? who were prepared to have their blood tested for a suitable match?

Nana Tavde , Seema and Bhaskar Dutta's boss who stayed in the back ground ,as they gave the first priority to his next to kin, now volunteered to be tested for a match. But unfortunately their blood was not found to be the desired match.The surgeon looked as he was ready to give up but none present were ready to accept that. Naku suddenly exclaimed someone who was overlooked.

Kanta mai! Sahib s real nother , Naku looked up to the heavens and prayed silently , Bappa! She is his mother.. so she claims ... let her blood be the one that saves her Sahib's life! Naku turned to her family

" aye Sahib! Baji! Tai!.. and she turned to the surgeon

"doctor Sahib ! there is one last person, part of our family , you could test her blood as well!.. let me go find her! and off Naku went , leaving one last ray of hope on the faces of all the people gathered in the waiting room. All the people who loved Sahib , like she did..

Naku found Kanta mai , her head bent on the altar of Durga maa. Naku felt her shoulder and she raised her head and gave Naku a tear faced sided look. Naku explained to her the time had approached to prove to her son ,that she is his blood mother. Kanta cried disillusioned though , but Naku picked up the yellow flower that lay by Kanta mai's elbow

"mai, the goddess has answered your prayers.. see the flower beside your elbow.. Durga maa understands your plight ,so come let's see a miracle happen!

Yes , Kanta an ex lady of the night ,who left her child in an orphanage , so that he would not be an interference in her means to earn a living.. went in to the room to get her blood sample matched to that off the critical patient Dutta patil. Yes it was a perfect match! and soon the procedure of transfusion was arranged! Although the doctor did warn it will take some time for the patient to take to the transfusion.

Kanta sided her head on the pillow and looked at Dutta his abdomen bandaged with a wide bandage all around . He lay still ,his head dropped to one side ,her side, but his eyes were closed.. the tubes were attached from her to him..just like the umbilical cord that attaches the unborn baby to his mother for sustenance.

Naku pressed her face against the port hole of the transfusion room door. Her Sahib.. there he was.. hang in there Sahib, nothing will happen to you Sahib.. Naku loves you! she cried outside the door. His mother's blood entered his body. Naku repeated I love you Sahib.. and slowly Dutta eyes opened and he could see the profile of Kanta mai. Slowly he rolled his head to the middle of his pillow and felt he heard Naku. He let his head fall on his pillow to the side of the door and saw her angelic face. Naku.. he mouthed and his eyes welled up too as he watched through the port hole tears rolled out of her green eyes. Dutta blinked his eyes once and feebly raised his finger up at her. Naku bit her fine lower lip and giggled . With sided narrowed eyes he saw her smile and blinked twice approvingly..and slowly closed his eyes..

Silently two figures crept into the recovery room as Dutta slept. One pair of young hands , shoved a bansuri under his pillow .The other figure left a small statue of lord Krishna with a single flower beneath it, on Dutta's bedside unit.. to be continued hamlet53 7.2.16

Hey hammie what a filmy update. Enjoyed it a lot. Though I knew nothing would happen to our hero but still my heart skipped a beat when the doctors declared he was sinking. Gosh that was scary.
Krishna is adorable loved his scenes . he is one lad I TOO am fond of..remember dutta's dialogue" tu hai tu chotti se , pun batien bari bari karti hai".. krishna may be a continuation of that dialogue
And the whole family ready to donate blood that was great. Just showed how much they love dutta.
Now tell me kanta giving blood to Dutta was it in your mind before or you just for once took up my suggestion? Lol whatever I liked that part. yesh yesh! rosie's idea and a brilliant one thanku! glad you liked its treatment!
Finally he opened his eyes and saw a teary nakku good he's safe and sound. This Krishna again took my heart in the last line by keeping the flute.
