Terence Lewis from 'Dance, India, Dance' Discusses Show

Terence Lewis from 'Dance India Dance' -- India's version of 'So You Think You Can Dance' -- just landed at LAX, and Hollywood.TV got a chance to ask him about his show and India. One interesting contrast between the two dance shows is that on Dance India Dance the judges are the choreographers themselves who train and prepare the dancers for the show. Lewis is both a choreographer and judge himself in the production, which combines traditional and contemporary drama and theatrics in their productions. Lewis enjoys showing off his choreography skills with the mentored dancers who are motivated in their endeavors in a very positive environment.

Thanks for posting. :)

Bahaha at Terence's accent. :P But I liked his answers.

Terence, it's nice that you view DID as this encouraging, positive and motivating show for these contestants. And I do agree that encouragement and building confidence is very important. But honestly, that criticism also seems to be lacking this season. And I think criticism is even more important for a dancer. And by this I mean genuine criticism. Because criticizing a dancer, shows that you CARE enough about their performance to analyze it. I am sure you criticize your contestants appropriately off camera, but I miss watching/listening to that kind of critical feedback on screen.

I really don't think you can compare DID with SYTYCD for this reason...because that criticism is very high on that show. Which is what makes it a quality dance show. That quality for DID seems to be going down, because there's too much babying of contestants going on. And I do realize that the culture/context in India is different. But honestly, there's a little too much positivity on this show. :P And it's not the genuine kind either. Alot of the times, the feedback for contestants sounds uninterested and rehearsed to me.

So in order to really raise the quality of DID, I think some genuine criticism needs to be brought back. These contestants do really have a LOT of scope for improvement. Even the choreography needs to be criticized at times.

Other than that, I loved Terence's responses about his dance style. I really do think he has created his own individuality and a medium of self expression through this dance style. It really is a great combination of the Western and the Indian. And the fact that Terence has chosen a contemporary dance style to mix with Indian classical and Bollywood...it's like a mix of an old and a new era...makes the overall style very contemporary and modern. I really do enjoy the scope of creativity and the ability to express in this dance style. And the grace and fluidity it allows too. And Terence really has showcased his knowledge, talent and creativity brilliantly through this dance style of his. 👍🏼

Thanks for posting :))
The only thing I really didn't like about the interview was the accent. I don't like put-on fake American accents. I started laughing when he started talking. 😆
His responses though were pretty nice.

Hey thanks for sharing. He was here for judging a local bollywood dance show called Jashan.
And I know...I too couldn't stop smiling as soon as he started talking...but then since he has been in the US for many years its kind of expected I guess. lol he was talking non stop.

Hey Ipshitaa...long time yaar. Oh so that's why he was in the U.S.? lol He seems to judge a lot of these random cultural dance shows in North America and all.

Yeah I think his accent isn't surprising given that he has lived in the U.S. in the past, and he travels in and out of North America on a pretty regular basis too. I didn't think the accent seemed put on or fake.

@Bold: Bahaha that's hilarious...and that sounds like him. He does like to talk it seems. :P 😆
