Small films like this (5 Weddings) and Love Sonia were shot much before RKR became popular with projects like Bareily Ki Barfi, Newton, Bose, etc. Usually such films either don't find a release date or are stuck at the distribution stage itself. And once an actor from these films become popular, they find an opportunity to release such films in anticipation of an audience. Infact all of his small films that released after BKB like Omerta, Newton were shot much before BKB but released after its success. If I'm not wrong, he also has an unreleased film with Hema Malini. We'll probably hear it releasing soon too.
Also, most of these small films were wrapped up in a month's time or even earlier. Rao isn't a superstar. He needed to act in whatever project he got before he tasted success. Now that is what his old producers are banking on and hence so many releases of RKR films.
Anyone remembers how that ridiculous film Basmati Blues was released after Brie won the Oscar for Room and starred in a big film like Kong? Same thing. 😆
