Straight from the horse's mouth! Director & writer of Talaash, Reema Kagti officially replies back on all rumours made by media on Talaash!

'Talaash' has no similarities with 'Kahaani': Reema Kagti

Writer-director Reema Kagti has quashed reports that the release of her Aamir Khan starrer 'Talaash' has been postponed because the film bears similarities with 'Kahaani'.

"I am rather surprised about these rumours. We have moved the release of the film to November because we didn't want it to clash with Aamir's TV show but some chose to build their own stories. I have heard a lot about 'Kahaani'. Sujoy Ghosh is a good friend and I am sure it would be fantastic. But there is nothing that is similar about the two films," Kagti.

'Kahaani', starring Vidya Balan, is a thriller and the trailers of 'Talaash' also indicate that the film belongs to the same genre but Kagti believes that comparing the two films is too much. She believes that the rumours started making the rounds after 'Talaash' release was postponed soon after the release of 'Kahaani'.

"Let 'Talaash' release and the film will speak for itself. People will realise on their own that there is no similarity whatsoever."

The film, a co-production of Aamir Khan, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, has been in news ever since it was announced around two years back. With Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherji joining the cast, the film became all the more special. There is lot of curiosity about 'Talaash' because it is releasing almost three years after Aamir's '3 Idiots'.

Kagti, who started her career with the impressive 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd', is not worried that the film, originally slated to release last December, has been delayed by a year and would now hit the screens on November 30.

"Such things happen. A film getting delayed is not uncommon. The film is ready and the first edit is also in place. I am not bothered that the film will arrive a few months later. I am chilled out."

The sets of Aamir's TV show had caught fire. After that it was inevitable that there would be delay and it was bound to have a ripple effect on 'Talaash'. It is just that the announcement has come now. The director also denies that they had to re-shoot certain portions of the film because of 'Kahaani'.

"There is just a little patchwork of a couple of shots to be done which would take half a day. Anyone familiar with little bit of filmmaking would know that it is common for most of the films but you can't change the film's storyline in such a short time."

Now that there are few more months before the release, Kagti is happy to have some extra time to promote the movie. "Aamir will see the first edit soon. There are other ideas that are being firmed up for the film's marketing and promotion. There is still some time before they are unveiled," she said.

Another excerpt from Deccan Chronicle:

Ever since he postponed Talaash to November, it has been alleged that the real reason behind the move was the film's similarity to Vidya Balan's runaway hit. No amount of clarification from producers Riteish Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, besides Aamir himself, could stop tongues from wagging. 🤢

With the situation going from bad to worse, Reema Kagti, who has so far maintained a stoic silence about Talaash, felt the need to clear the air. She said, "Talaash is completely original, so comparisons with Kahaani are surprising.
I have said this before but some people like to get carried away by idle gossip while the truth blends into oblivion."But she believes things will change once the promos of Talaash go on air. "Talaash is ready and Aamir will soon see the first cut."

Of course. 🤪 I am more curious about the marketing strategies this time than the film tbh.

I feel they shouldnt have postponed the movie. Salman timed release of Dabangg with Bigg Boss 4. It benefitted both the movie and the TV show.

The marketing strategies have to be unique because it's an Aamir Khan film. It's no joke.👍🏼

And it's clear that as he's busy with his TV show right now, so he can't focus on marketing of Talaash that's why he postponed it.

His TV show is also his own production (co-produced with STAR) and he needs to plan for its promotional strategies too.

Nothing surprising here if he delayed Talaash and focused on TV show. Both are his projects and his co-productions. Entirely his call which one he wants to focus on first.

BTW, India Today reported that STAR had made Aamir postpone the show - ''Star Plus has postponed the launch of a programme featuring Aamir Khan, so as to not clash with the IPL''

The show was earlier supposed to come around February-March. But it got postponed after its sets were completely destroyed in a fire. [Now he himself hasn't set fire to his TV show's sets na? So gossip-lovers can rest! 😆]

And anyone can see, how serious he is about the show and its message. He isn't even allowing his ads to be shown with it, so that the show's message does not get diluted. Then why would he time both film and TV show together?

It's not some entertainment-based conventional reality show. But about social issues and real India. It's not like any other show which can be timed around the star's film and used to promote even the film on it side by side!

Salman's show was entertainment-based. Aamir's show is about social issues. Whereas Talaash is a suspense drama. Both are radically different and can't be used to promote each other. And whole purpose of his show would be defeated if he made it filmy or used an issue-based show to promote his film!

What do you expect him to do in a show on social issues? Talk to real Indian heroes throughout, blabber on issues and later tell everyone - oh please do come and watch my new film?😆

Or mouth dialogues from Talaash, even bring Rani & Kareena to dance a bit to promote Talaash in a TV show which is rooted in India and its issues?😆 Naive thinking!🤪

He has only done the right thing for his show and upheld its essence.

Here's a more detailed article with Reema Kagti's comments on this issue:

No 'reshoot' for Aamir Khan's TALAASH, confirms Reema

March 22, 2012 02:28:52 PM IST
Joginder Tuteja, Glamsham Editorial

TALAASH, a co-production of Aamir Khan, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, has been in news ever since it was announced around two years back. With Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji joining the cast, the film became all the more special. Also since TALAASH is releasing almost three years after Aamir's last commercial release (3 IDIOTS), there is widespread curiosity amongst many to catch the film.

However writer-director Reema Kagti isn't overtly bothered about the fact that the film, which was originally slated to release last December, has been delayed by a year and would now hit the screens on 30th November.

''Such things happen,'' she says in a matter of fact tone, ''A film getting delayed is not uncommon. Anything that works towards the betterment of the film and gives good enough space for promotion and marketing is fine. It isn't as if my film was started and then was stalled. In fact it is ready and the first edit is also in place. Now if the film arrives a few months later, it's okay. I am chilled out.''

Reema goes on to add that she had started preparing herself for the film's delay once shoot of Aamir Khan's TV show got postponed.

''It is known to one and all that sets of Aamir's show had caught fire. After that it was inevitable that there would be further time spent before he starts shooting for it. This was bound to have a ripple effect on TALAASH. It is just that the announcement has come in now,'' she reasons.

She is particularly amused with another rumour making the round that the major portions of TALAASH are being re-shot so that (alleged) similarities with KAHAANI are completely wiped out.

''Impossible,'' she laughs, ''Neither is there any shoot remaining nor is there any re-shoot happening.
There is just a little patchwork of a couple of shots to be done which would take half a day. Now anyone familiar with little bit of filmmaking would know that patchwork is common for most of the films and could take place even a few days before the release. In half a day of patchwork, you can't change the film's storyline, right?''

Right Reema!

Good reply by Reema. Utterly laughable for people to think that a film's whole story can be changed in just 1 month or that a completed film is going to be re-shot while Aamir is clearly shooting for his TV show and planning its marketing these days!😆 His show would last for at least 2-3 months (June to July or mid-August). And after that he'd take some time off from all work altogether. If Talaash is releasing in November-December, then how come some know-it-alls think he can re-shoot it and get it ready for release so soon?🤪

Funny that the writer and director of the film herself is confirming things but people are making their own ''theories'' and believe that Zoom TV must be knowing all truth - more than the makers of the film itself! 🐷

Here's more excerpts from people associated with Talaash:

"Reema, who has co-written the film with Zoya Akhtar and has directed Talaash, is amused that outsiders seem to know about the film more than her. There is no similarity whatsoever between Talaash and Kahaani but somehow mischief makers are hell bent on establishing that. She was forthcoming enough to tell everyone who cared to ask that the two films were dissimilar. Still, there are some out there who are unwilling to carry the right side of affairs. They are happy to build their own assumptions and spread false stories", says a friend of the director.

[Simply empty-minded gossip reporters making up rumours and linking 2 different things together to make some ''news''. Tom-foolery by Indian filmi media!🤪

Every suspense film is the same? Yeah right! 🤢]
