Sonakshi Sinha is poised at the top of the world as her debut venture, Dabanng readies for release on the broad shoulders of the most wanted Khan. And she's not afraid of being overshadowed either, "I have put in my best and it's my debut. I am sure people will talk about me once the film releases." In the film, she plays a grounded village belle who falls in love with Salman's character, Chulbul Pandey, an inspector who is loud and short tempered. How she changes him with her love is what the movie is about.
Born and bred into an atmosphere of films and politics, the actress did not train or attend any school of acting ' it was destiny that chose her. "I was never interested in acting, it just happened at the spur of the moment. Arbaaz Khan and Salman Khan came to me with the offer and I agreed. Salman is not new to the industry. He has known my parents for a long time. Of course it all happened with my parents' permission. We had a joint discussion. It just took a little bit of coercion for them to agree," she recounts.
Salman knew the industry would eventually claim her as its own, "Salman always told me that I will become an actress one day. 'Your place is in the industry and you will ultimately land up here' were his comments whenever he saw me. Even my friends always said that I would end up acting. I preferred designing clothes, I've done a three-year course in fashion designing and even some modelling," she confides.
Her brother Luv had a debacle with his first film, but Sonakshi is quick to support him, "He's young and has a long way to go. I'm sure he will do well in the future. The first film is not the end of your career. He's good at his job and hardworking. I'm sure he'll have good offers. With me it was different ' I got the biggest Khan to debut with. I am sure it makes a lot of difference."
Known to be a real daddy's little girl, Sonakshi speaks fondly of her siblings, twin brothers Luv and Kush, "Well, we talk on a mature level now. They are twins and have always ganged up against me as children. We used to have numerous fights. I would run to my father for support. Since I was the apple of his eye, they used to get scolded. My mother was strict with us. Otherwise we have had a very normal upbringing. My parents gave us the liberty to do what we wanted to do. I am sure my mum had to be strict or else I would have been spoilt rotten."
And for someone who comes from a family that values tradition and is rooted in culture, will Sonakshi fall prey to the industry's demands for 'glamour'? "I don't mind wearing short dresses or skirts but keeping in mind my father's political status, bikinis will be a strict no-no for me, nor am I open to kissing onscreen," she states openly.
This young 'un, with girlish charm, also has a Bollywood wishlist, "Oh, my first crush as a school girl has always been Hrithik Roshan. I watched Kaho Na Pyaar Hai over and over again. I would love to work with him of course. Otherwise my wishlist is never ending. There are so many wonderful actors and directors'" she rattles off.
