Dev patel jokes about Anil Kapoor's accent - Page 2

Dev wasn't making fun. He didn't insulted Anil or anything, he was just joking.

I don't think Dev was trying to insult Anil. In the clip he does say that everyone would joke and make fun of how they spoke etc Some people just like to try and stir things, even when there is nothing there😆

I know it is funny to make fun of others. Even people say Anil is trying to get the maximum out of it. But WHY NOT? He is a prominent part of the movie and if the movie is based on India and said to be Indian then why only the Indians born out of India get the deal out of it.

And then if you see the clip the host did not even start the joke as soon as he mentions the name Dev goes and make fun of the accent. WOW...some might find it cool. 😕

You know After living here in US I had to get the accent right as the Americans would go "What?"...but to me we are all better off as we as ASian - can understand every accent. Be it korean, japanese, chinese, Italian or french. 👏

But this for me was bad on Dev's part. And also the thing that he said about India on the INdian TElevision about being Horror experience shooting here.

C'mmon everyone makes fun the Indian accent....I don't have an indian accent but my parents do...and we always joke around about it....it's not a big deal....it's like when someone who doesn't really speak Hindi and when they speak it, it sounds funny....when I think of funny Indian accents, I think of Apu from the Simpsons!

BTW, the most out of place accent in the movie SDM was Dev patel's British accent! I wish Dev had learnt a little from AK's desi accent to sound like an authentic Indian slum walla in the movie. His Bristish accent was very jarring IMO as it did not go with the image of Jamal, a slum dweller. So, Dev has no business making fun of Indian accents.

Yeah, Dev's accent was definitely misplaced in SM. He should have put on an Indian accent for his character. Many actors do accents really well and can't even tell where they are from until they speak with their original accent!

Some people just read too much into title and comment on topic starter when it is relatives of their favorite. OUCH! even when you just post a video still people make up their mind that the thing was twisted by this member. 😆

I thought Dev did a wonderful job doing an Indian accent. I didn't know he was British until after the movie when I looked him up on the internet. Dev also had a vocal coach for the movie. So I think he did a decent job and he was convincing enough.

I watched the interview on the Comedy Central website, unfortunately it tracks the IPs to see if you are in the country of origin. Haven't watched The Daily Show since November so I really enjoyed it. Jon Stewart, sigh......! Okay, I watched it, and I did not find it insulting at all. He just made fun of the intonation of the grandeur of how he said millionaire, and that Jon made a connection about how Anil still weirdly sounded like Regis in a way. That comparison I will never get, but then they don't really know, who Amitabh is unlike Stephen Colbert (i.e. Alpha Dog of the Week). As far as that bit did last about 15 seconds or so it seemed, and I get that people can be offended. Personally, I was made fun of my accent mercilessly through kindergarten when I first moved and if it was something done in a mean way then I would be offended, but it seemed harmless here.

And Dev's accent did not really go with the film at all, but I don't think they hired him a coach for that since it was a lower budget movie. At least I remember reading that he had to learn from the surroundings so his attempt is a bit of a "middle accent." The worst accent I have ever heard in a film was Julia Robert's horrible attempt at an Irish accent in Michael Collins so compared to that it anything goes. In interviews he does admit that though, but I still think he did a good job just not as much as the children. In fact in one of his interviews he mentioned how much of a thrill and challenge it was as an actor to do the police scene with Saurabh Shukla and Irrfan Khan because of how good they were and how much he had to work to try and match up to their level. That was a lovely thing to say I thought.

My highlight of the show was when Dev mentioned how he was just 18 years old and that he really shouldn't be here. And that Jon lamented about how he was 46 and still not nearly as talented as Dev is and was just jealous that he doesn't have the new car smell that Dev does. Haha!
