Kavita, That is very sweet of you to say.😳 I don't speak very fluent Hindi, though am getting better. Can just imagine how people would be chortling at my efforts.

This version of SPD is quite new to me. My son's manifests in terms of liking certain textures, and finding other textures gross (not just objects, but also food items). It makes his feeding issues even more complicated... I am glad Rish had some effective therapy for that, Swaps.

I can tell you love Halloween!!! 😉 Will you be dressing up too?

My daughter has been sick, so we were both at home. It allowed me to catch up on some chores, but I am a bit cabin feverish and hoping she can join her class party tomorrow, poor thing. We put up some of our eerie decorations outside. I like the excitement of the whole evening, though am not a fan of those silly rubber spiders which people put into the trick or treat bags. Ugh..

One of my favourite relatives passed away (in India). She was quite elderly, so it was not altogether unexpected. I have been remembering her a lot, and saying some prayers in her name.

Last year I baked brownies for all the teachers and bus drivers, and got those nice Christmas tins from Walmart to put them into. They were very well appreciated, but I got sick of the smell of brownies by the time I was done!🤢 Must do something different this year.

We had a visit from a census worker. My son was hilarious and made friends with her instantly. He was really in a sociable mood and managed to get her to massage his feet!!😆 So Swaps, SOMEONE in the house got their foot massage, heh.

Hey Mahika,
I'm sorry to hear about your realtive passing away in India. All I can say is that since you stated she was quite elderly, is that at least she lived a full life. I hope you are doing ok after hearing the sad news.
I usually do dress up for Halloween actually. One year I played the "Phantom" in Phantom of the Opera, I think that was my best costume yet. This year, I'll probably be just a boring old witch, since I did not have a chance to go out and get a good costume. We'll be out trick or treating from about 4-ish and then getting together to hang out with a bunch of friends afterwards. I don't know if the weather will hold up for us... pray it does not rain folks, Rish has been waiting sooooooo much for tomorrow, and I don't know what he'll do if it's raining and he can't go out to trick or treat. 😭 Besides, I have all this Halloween candy lying around in the house, which is REALLY bad for a chocaholic like me to keep lying around, since it will all end up on my stomach/hips/thighs in very short order!!! 🤢 I need to give it out to the kids pronto!!!
We haven't unpacked all our decorations yet, otherwise I usually have the house decorated well for both Christmas and Halloween. I usually put a graveyard complete with headstones out in the front yard, and have spooky spiderwebs draped all over my shrubs, and about 7 Jack-o-Lanterns out on the front porch. But I guess I'll do all that next year, IF we actually manage to get all out unpacking done anyway... I'll say it agaibn after saying it for the nth time... I HATE MOVING!!!
Hope your daughter is feeling ok now, and managed to get to her calss party. Rish has a parade in school where all hte school kids walked around the parking lot showing off their costumes. You guys should have seen Rish, he was just sooooooooo chuffed to be walking around as Buzz Lighyear and that all his teachers and aides were oohing and aahing over him, taking pictures etc. They had a calss party afterwards and he enjoyed all the treats that were put together. They played a "Mummy" game where one kid had to wrap up another kid in tissue papers until they were totally covered from head to toe in white. The pair who finished first won the game. They played another one where their teacher tied a donut to a pole and line like a fishing pole, and had the kids keep their hands behind their backs and then try to get the donut using only their mouths while the teacher held the pole in the air, bobbing it up and down. They had SOOOO much fun with that one. Rish's face was totally covered in icing sugar with it in his hair and all, and he could'nt stop giggling every time his teacher pulled the pole out of his reach just as he was going to take a bite, it was so cute to watch him! 😃
Take Care Folks! 😃

Well, glad you are having fun!! How did Rish enjoy the trick or treating? It did end up raining here...

My daughter did not make it to the class party or the parade at school because she has the flu, poor baby.( My husband attended our son's party and took lots of parade pics.) She is still quite ill, and did not manage to walk more than a block or two this evening. We spent the rest of the evening on the porch, handing out treats.

My son had a great time. Initially he didn't like the constant stopping at people's houses, and got very upset. We ended up splitting up, sigh, we do that almost every year. My husband took him on a walk, and got him slowly adjusted to what was going on, and he finally got the hang of it. I took my daughter. When we sat on the porch, my son ate his dinner there, a great novelty for him, and stuck his hand out to feel the rain come down.

We always get a lot of kids, and ran through almost three huge boxes of candy from Costco!😉

Hey folks,
Thanks for the kind words Ritika, I really do feel like Mahika and I share a bond that is quite unique in that both of us have kids on the spectrum. We can understand and totally sypmathise with each others trials and we really know how joyful the high moments can be as well. I am grateful to IF and AKA for bringing us together like this. 😃
Rish was sick all day yesterday and today. This afternoon he developed a really high fever of 103, and I took him to the Dr. who diagnosed him with the H1N1 virus... yuck!!! 😔 He has to stay home from school all week and I have to keep a close eye on him to make sure he does not develop pneumonia. He'll only be missing 3 days of school though since Thursday and Friday are holidays for the NJ teachers convention here. I'm going to have to monitor his asthma symptoms closely as well. He's not had an attack for the longest time, and I was beginning to hope it was going away! I guess we'll see how things develop anyway. The Doc did not want to put him on Tamiflu, since he was not severe in his symptoms, and it apparently can cause physcotic thoughts/hallucinations in kids... that totally scares me more than any other reaction he might get. He would be scared out of his mind and would not understand what was happenning to him at all.
At least he did get to go trick or treating on Saturday night with his friends. He had a whale of a time and came home with loads of loot. We still have some candy left over from our stash since it did end up raining and the kids did not come out in their usual droves, but it's just a little so I guess I can live with some of it going on my hips/thighs/tummy (or at least the chocaholic side of me can live with that I should say!) 😆.
Hope everyone is doing well otherwise. 😊

Ritika, How kind you are! It's so nice of you to encourage us. I really appreciate the kind words of everyone on this forum--so much understanding and compassion really gives us autistic families something positive to reflect on when those hard days never seem to end. ❤️

Swaps, POOR RISH!!!! How is he feeling? Was he able to get any sleep? I don't think my daughter had H1N1, just the regular flu. I didn't take her in for a diagnosis; we happened to see the doc for something else last week when she was at the beginning of the whole thing, and were told to basically make her rest, and come in if the fever was higher than 103, which it wasn't, thank goodness. Hope Rish gets better very soon, and asthma stays dormant.

She went back to school, and had a very hard day--tired from all the meds, missed work so she didn't know what was going on, and there was some drama with a library book which produced a big thunderstorm of tears before bedtime. OMG. It was like a soap opera in our very own home. Poor baby is going to take some more days to feel all better.

Frustrating morning with my son. He wanted to tell us something but we didn't understand, so he kept hitting us as he got upset that he couldn't communicate. Ohh, I felt very inadequate.. And what is the use of saying "No hitting" when he cannot unstick his mind from the unsuccessful communication. Just to be sure he wasn't falling ill too, we took his temp, but he seems alright, knock wood.

Take care of your own health too, Swaps. I have been under the weather too, with a milder virus. I am ashamed to tell you that when my daughter was so soap-opera-esque, I had a little weep too. She was really shocked, and we gave each other big hugs. I just couldn't handle being ill, plus being so behind on all my own work, and then her being nasty to me on top of it.😭 My husband is always astounded by the mother-daughter symbiosis.

Mahika.

Hey folks,
Rish is still laid up poor kid, he's been having so much trouble sleeping, since he's been coughing so much. I've been awake for so long now (since Sunday night) it seems like I'm a zombie, but I'm still better off, than my poor Rish. I hate when he gets sick since he gets so scared of all that happens to his body and the symptoms. He gets really clingy and sticks to me all the time, so every thing else at home takes a back seat, but I don't feel like leaving him when he feels so rotten.
Hopefully he'll start feeling better now that he's past the third day of the illness. The Dr. said he should start feeling better towards the end of the week, and I really hope so. So far, no wheezing or asthma issues even with all his coughing and I'm praying hard it stays that way!
I understand all about meltdowns too Mahika, I have had, and of course continue to have my share of them off and on. Mine tend to get triggerred by dumb things though, especially when I've been stressed out. My husband always tries to console me by telling me "This too will pass"... but what can I say sometimes I really do feel the weight of the world on my shoulders.
Gottta run for now anyway...
Take Care folks!

Hey everyone! How are things? Sorry I have not been in action, Swaps. My own congestion has been so bad and my asthma started acting up. Really tired from all the coughing, and no chance to take a break because my husband's schedule has been so busy.

My poor daughter has Fifth disease.😭 So I guess we have all been exposed too. Just praying my son doesn't get it. Her rash is quite virulent today, though once you can see the rash, I gather it's no longer contagious.

How is Rish feeling, and what about you? Has the zombie-ness retreated?😊 These kids are such petri dishes!

On an upbeat note, we had a babysitter yesterday, and finally got out for a grown up evening of uninterrupted conversation and fine dining. Ohh, it was simply divine. We needed it, especially after my son also got sent home from his childcare during the day because his tummy was bothering him and he was crying a lot. So we figured if everyone is falling ill, let's have one fun evening before the fresh onslaught begins!

I had my hair down for date night yesterday, and my son was enchanted by me, heh heh. He kept stroking my hair and beaming at me. What a tactile person he is.😆

Take care, and write soon!

Mahika.

Just checking in. How is Rish, Swaps? Any better?

My daughter is finally better, but I have been sick as a dawg.... Had to use the nebuliser at the doc's office today. Just exhausted from my health being at subpar level.

My son has a school trip coming up. This will be the first one where one of us is not chaperoning (both of us have work that day). Fingers crossed that he will be able to enjoy all the excitement without freaking out.

Take care.

Mahika.
