Salman Khan floors the ladies!

Salman Khan is having a whale of a time. Don't just take our word for it. Just check out these photographs taken from his new television show, 10 Ka Dum, which goes on air later tonight on Sony Entertainment Television.

Catch 10 Ka Dum every Friday-Saturday at 9.00 pm on Sony Entertainment Television

Ever the showman, Salman commanded the stage with his larger than
life screen presence and steady flow of jokes and dance moves.

Here the actor is seen hugging the show's first contestant for the evening, Akshata Tiwarekar, who is a Credit Society employee. At first, Salman was a bit nervous. But as the show progressed, the actor became more animated. Tiwarekar also helped to loosen up the star by making him talk in Marathi and dance in a tapori style!

Another contestant Vamika Ghai also got a chance to hug Salman. The newly wed openly declared her love to her idol by saying, "I wish I had met you earlier; I would have married you instead!"

Whether the show will pick up a fan following is still early to tell.
But, from the looks of things, Salman looks like he's dancing all the way to the bank.

OUT: Salman's best kept secrets!

The actor's life is an open book for fans, but not the media

By CNN-IBN . Jun 03, 2008

Controversy's favourite child, Salman Khan is known to make heads turn and headlines too. Be it his affair with Aishwarya Rai,the blackbuck case, the hit-and-run case or his tiff with actor Vivek Oberoi,Salman has never spoken to the media on any of these issues.

Salman Khan: There was never a need to clarify anything. My family knows the reality every time. My friends know. Why should I clarify it with anyone else? But yes, that's the reason I got this image of being an angry man who beats up people.

Rohit Khilnani: So, there is a flip side when you keep things to yourself and don't clarify?

Salman Khan: Yes, I agree that's the flip side when you keep quiet and don't clarify. I agree it's my fault, but what to do? I am like that.

Salman is currently shooting for his game show Dus Ka Dum at RK Studios which premieres on Friday on Sony. While shooting for the show, Salman met many fans. While some were excited to see him, others have asked him controversial questions point blank. And surprise, surprise, Salman answered them all.

Salman Khan: Oh yes, fans ask all sorts of things to my face and I have answered and cleared my image with them.

Rohit Khilnani: And what if I ask you some controversial question?

Salman Khan: Then I will whack you! (smiles)

Well, there you have it. Fans are allowed to ask what they wish, but the media — as usual — is kept at bay. But as long as Salman Khan keeps talking, no one's complaining!

Salman Khan unplugged

Author: Amul Sharma Date: 05 Jun 2008

The actor turned telly host talks about 10 Ka Dum and all other things controversial

People perceive Salman Khan as being moody. Ironically, on the day I set out to meet him at RK Studios in Chembur, the weather turned unpredictable too and untimely rains poured down on me (but didn't dampen my spirit).

I walked in to meet the actor on Sony Entertainment's new game show 10 Ka Dum; soaking wet (some of it may have been sweat). I had a list of not-so-nice questions and was hoping Sallu would be nice about it. In my head, I played out what he would do if I asked him an impertinent question. Throw me out or throw something at me. But my fears were unfounded. The actor was well... nice. He joked, he winked and yes, his eyes spoke when I asked him uncomfortable questions. But all in all, it was all good and gravy. Read on…

For 10 Ka Dum, were you in touch with Drew Carey the host of Power Of Ten?
No, what rubbish! I have seen the show but have never been in touch with him. I mean, why would I be? I saw the concept and the way show panned out and liked it immensely and that's how I got on board. I am a part of 10 Ka Dum because of its simplicity and minimalism. There was also a rumour that Shah Rukh trained me for the show which again is not true.

Why do a television show at the peak of your career?
I am doing this show for many reasons. One, my fans can get up, close and personal with me through the medium of television. And two, they can watch me on TV every week without spending any money. There is no gyaan or other such stuff required to be a part of this show. The only requirement is the contestants know what the majority of people in India are thinking. Even if you lose, it's not awkward for them; because we are not testing their knowledge or their intelligence. It's just that you could not guess the percentage right. And it is not possible that anyone will know everything in this world.

Have you been offered anything prior to 10 Ka Dum on television?
Yes, I think I was offered that Fear Factor show. I didn't want to do it because there was too much hard work required to just host that show. I personally think Akshay is the right choice for that show. He has started training and getting into shape for the show.

Do you watch television regularly?
Yes, I watch TV more than regularly. I watch whatever comes on TV. I am not very particular about what I watch. Whatever my family or friends are watching, I go and join them and see whatever is on. I hate this channel surfing thing. I can't stand that. Whatever is on I let it run and I don't mess around with the remote.

What according to you is good TV?
10 Ka Dum.

What you call 10 Ka Dum a reality show or a mere game show?
I have no idea how to term the show. I think I would take it as a feature film that I am doing and that's going to release on TV every Friday and Saturday with contestants in stead of actors; bonding with them and feeling happy for the money they win. I am dying to give away money. Even people at Sony want to give away money, they too want people to win. Most of the other shows don't want people to win handsomely.

What's the format of the game?
To start with, two people play 'best of five'. Whoever answers the most questions correctly goes on to play the mega game for 10 crores. You have a window of like 40% on the first question and if the answer matches the public opinion, they move on to the next question. From every other question, the window keeps on closing by 10% till the last one.

How much of creative input have you brought to the show?
All I am giving to the show is me, that's it. The format is an international format and I am not touching that. Between the guidelines and format and the rules of the show, I can look like a total idiot, or come across as the nicest guy or the meanest guy, but it's all me. Pure uncut Salman Khan. Whatever people will see of me here on the show is the same I am at home in my living room. There is no acting involved. There is no jhol-jhaal. It is just a straight and honest me you will see.

You were rehearsing the show with family and friends, right?
Initially, for the first few days, when I got on board, I practised the format with family and friends and then I got the hang of it so fast that I stopped rehearsing it.

Did you feel that TV is a comedown for a big film star?
No, Why? Who says TV is a comedown? Do people actually say that? If they do, then they are nothing but d***heads. TV has saved so many lives, there are so many channels and so many shows. People watch them in the comfort of their houses. They don't have to set a foot out to get entertainment. There is enough money is this business. A lot of actors who couldn't get into movies are today doing TV and don't want to work in movies no more; because they are making ample money on television. For the hours TV is on, log lights off kar dete hai lekin TV on rakhte hain.

Hrithik is also making his small screen debut on the same day with another channel. Comment
It is unfair to compare Hrithik to me. He is like a brother, he is like Sohail to me, yaar. He is a super kid. If his TRP ratings are higher than mine, I will be the happiest person. I have spent a lot of time with Duggs (Hrithik's pet name is Duggu). I have trained him for his first film. I mean what better than a younger guy coming on TV and his TRP being better than mine?

Do you feel embarrassed when women on the show want to hug you and kiss you and say that they love you?
Why should I feel embarrassed! Do you feel embarrassed when women do that to you?

Me: No.

Salman: You like it?

Me: Yes.

Salman: Then why should feel like that bro? All my fans whenever they see me and I am not talking about the show they hug me and kiss me and say that they love me. That shit happens all the time.

You have a very generous image in the industry; will you give away gifts like SRK used to give away watches?
It is very strange that till now I have not given anything to the contestants or even the audiences coming to see the show. As a matter of fact, they are the ones who are getting small tokens of appreciation for me when they come to play the game. They have come here to make money because they need the money, and they are the ones who are giving me gifts! How amazing is that! As far as Shah Rukh Khan giving away watches on KBC goes, let me tell you on record that it was my idea. I told Shah Rukh to do that. It is a Salman Khan thing to do!

Did you come up with some funny, interesting catchphrases for the show?
We use chhaap na and chhaap do! That's all I am using in the show and yes you can call it catchphrases if you want.

Other games shows have these lifelines for their contestants, do you have the same in 10 Ka Dum?
No. Out here you answer the questions correctly and you go on the next round and win ten fold. You answer a question wrong, you are out of the game there and then.

You have been on KBC3 with SRK, will you invite Shah Rukh for your show?
I don't know. Whatever the Sony people decide, I am cool with it. I am not sure if Shah Rukh is going to come to the show though because he is doing a show on another channel and it could be a clash of interests.

Did you prefer Amitabh Bachchan as the host of KBC or Shah Rukh Khan?
I think both of them are damn good. Amitji has his own style, as does Shah Rukh. But my real inspiration for 10 Ka Dum is Govinda. He did a show a long time ago called Jeeto Chappad Phaadke and he was fantastic back then. I am basically trying to follow Chi Chi's footsteps. I am trying to make it more a mixture of classes and masses and funnier.

Have you seen Paanchvi Pass? What do you think of it?
No, buddy. Haven't got a chance to catch it as yet as I was in Australia shooting for Main Aur Mrs Khanna. But I am sure Shah Rukh is doing a very good job with the show. If it is not done well, it is because of the whole IPL fever.

Which team where you rooting for in the IPL?
For Preity Zinta's team (Kings XI Punjab).

What was your take on the whole Ponds controversy surrounding Arbaaz's second marriage?
The tabloid made a big deal out of it and were made to look like idiots. Before knowing the basic facts, they started writing about it. Finally, to clear their own wrongdoing, they started putting Arbaaz and Malaika down. The Ponds thing was a good thing, it is good for people to remarry each other but because the media blew it out of proportion, they had to clear their own stuff. People started to say that they were doing it for the money. It was ridiculous! When we give away so much of money, we won't do it for money.

Now, you are apparently the highest paid actor in Bollywood. Is it true?
I always was! By far, I am the highest paid actor.

How much do you charge for a movie? The latest figure is 50 crores!
(Winks!) Whoever is the next best, I charge five times more than him! It's not me, it is my fans. They go and watch my movies and now I am giving something back to them. I am going to their houses with 10 Ka Dum. I am going to come into people's houses, their bedrooms but won't sleep, I would come into people's kitchens but won't even drink a glass of water. But I will be there in each and every one of my fans' houses.

Are you taking a dig at Akshay Kumar when you say that?
(Silence)

Your thoughts on Bollywood blogging, you are blogging too?
I am not blogging. I am writing! I know that right now all the blogs I have written have been on 10 Ka Dum but soon I am going to start writing about my personal stuff too. I am writing on Being Human now!

How many years is your contract for the show?
I am doing three seasons right now after that we will see how we want to go about it.

How much are you getting paid for the show?
(Winks and says nothing!)

No one's helping me: Salman Khan

Shubha Shetty-Saha

Wednesday, June 04, 2008 23:59 IST

The first showers of the season and I'm sitting with Salman Khan, looking cool as ever. These are the few occasions, which make me feel grateful for the kind of work I do. Bang in the middle of the sets of his new TV show, Dus Ka Dum, while everyone is running around, Salman seems unfazed. "I'm happy doing this show.

Finally, I'll be interacting with people directly. Now, they'll know the real me." Turning a slight shade of crimson, he continues, "They ask me the weirdest questions. Like one person asked me,'Aap itni sari ladkiyan kaise patate ho?' I answered, 'Ladkiyan mujhe patati hai'."

Quiz him on being dubbed as the most expensive star on TV till date and he says, "That's got to do with the kind of fan following I have. It's nothing to do with my stardom. People still like me even after all that has been written against me.In spite of being portrayed as arrogant and an irresponsible brat time and again, my fans have not lost faith in me. That's the reason I have still survived. The world is yet to know the real person I am. I am a responsible citizen of this country."

He adds, "I don't get affected any longer. What goes around comes around. I believe in that."

There is something else that Salman truly believes in—his foundation Being Human, which finances surgeries for the needy. "I'm planning to hold an exhibition of my paintings, launching my own clothesline and also holding a few concerts to fund the cause. I need to do all this because no one's offering to help me. I'm shocked that not one of my friends has showed interest in the cause. I'm not going to ask them. If I call them up once or twice for this, they might start ignoring my calls after that. It's really sad," he sighs.

"Anyway, I'm working towards helping as many people as I can. We don't have any overheads as we work from home. I've been bearing all expenses and I will continue doing so. But I will not ask anybody for help," he asserts.

It's raining gifts for Salman

In the second episode of Dus Ka Dum, Salman has stolen the hearts of its participants and viewers as well. Today a contestant called Nandini Biswas gifts Salman a bedsheet with his picture printed on it.

Nandini who is a big fan of Sallu works as a visualiser and designer in a firm and went out of her way to gift this bedsheet to the actor. "Nandini had gone through a number of pictures of Salman and finally zeroed down to one. She then went ahead with the screen printing and gifted to Salman," says the source.

Well the picture on the bed-sheet displayed Salman's six packs (like in his hit song Oh Oh jaane jana). Salman was at his humorous best and immediately reacted saying, "Isse behtar picture nahi milithi kya? (Didn't you get any better picture of mine beside this?)"

Nandini was horrified and said softly, "This was the best quality picture for printing on the sheet thus I used it." Later on he just laughed and said, "You have printed my picture on this bedsheet and then you sleep on it."

Well the gracious host accepted the gift with pride and made his fan feel great in the show. Beside that another gift was received by him from the second participant Baubin Kumar's co-helper.

It's raining love for Salman from his fans on the show.

Buddy buddy baatein

While Aamir Khan appeared in Salman's TV show for friendship's sake, cricketer
Yuvraj Singh teased the host about his girlfriend, reports Shubha Shetty-Saha

Even though Aamir Khan doesn't make appearances on reality shows, he made an exception for buddy Salman Khan.

On Sunday night, sources say, Salman called up Aamir to ask him if he had seen his new show 'Dus Ka Dum'. Even though Aamir is busy with the post production of 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' and the shooting of 'Ghajini', he had managed to catch Salman's show at a post production studio.

When Aamir said that he had liked him in the show, Salman invited him to be a part of the show. A source close to Aamir says, "Aamir is really busy and he doesn't do much television. Earlier he had gone on the sets of Kaun Banega Crorepati for a charitable cause. He appeared on the show Little Champs show because it had to do with kids. But this time he purely agreed for his friend Salman."

Aamir went along with his nephew Imran Khan (debuting in Jaane Tu…) and reached the studios at one in the morning. Salman patiently waited for them and got an episode shot.

Salman also had some other guests who were not his colleagues. Cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh (Bhajji) made an appearance and ended up ragging Salman. When Salman asked the duo how they could play so untiringly, while he gets exhausted just running, Bhajji quickly said, "It depends on who you are running
after…was it Vivek Oberoi whom you were running after?"

When Salman asked the duo to name their favourite actress Yuvi wickedly said, "Katrina Kaif" to which a blushing Salman added, "Mine too." Bhajji however, was diplomatic and said, "Mine is Lara Dutta but I like Katrina too."

Yuvi and Bhajji managed to touch the one crore mark in the show. Half of that amount was donated to Salman's charity foundation Being Human, Rs 25 lakh was given to a charity run by Yuvraj's mother and the rest to the little ill boy, who Harbhajan had visited recently at a hospital in Agra.

Exclusive: Salman's sketch of Aseem's 'Wanted' look

We got hold of Aseem Merchant's sketch in his 'Wanted' look for the Boney Kapoor of the same name. The sketch was done by superstar Salman Khan.

Says Aseem, "After the first day shoot in Hyderabad, I was partying in Salman's room with a Bacardi when he casually said that he wanted to frame me in his sketch. Initially I thought he was just joking but then he actually did it and gifted it to me."

He reveals, "It was a Monday night. We sat together at 9 p m till 2 am. It took Salman a good two hours to make my sketch. He draws like a professional artist and in fact carries a pencil and eraser in his pocket. I intend to frame the sketch in his room."

On his reaction, the actor says, "I felt like I was the richest man in the world. I don't know how many others have got gifts from Salman but I certainly felt great in my heart."

Praising Salman as a person, he says, "The thing I like about Salman the most is he take cares for each and every person who is with him. Earlier I thought he was very rude but after interacting with him I got to know that all my assumptions about him were wrong."

Salman and Aseem play the main antagonists in the film revolving around underworld gangsters.

Salman ke ghar ki murgi

Most film units that work with Salman Khan are aware of the he-man's penchant for food. As well as the fact that the generous Sallumiya always gets home-cooked food for the crew. In fact the food that comes is so yummy that everybody waits for Salman to open his dabba. Now that Salman is shooting for his first TV show he continues doing the same even on the sets of Dus Ka Dum.

A source from the sets says, "He brings a dabba for every one on the sets. Sallu also eats the food that is prepared on the sets with the team of the show.

"There is a girl from the team who is a vegetarian. Salman has kept that in mind and brings home-cooked vegetarian food for her."

Salman stands in a queue as he awaits his turn at lunch time. "He does not throw any starry tantrums. He stands in a line and awaits his turn as there is a buffet lunch on the sets. Later on he eats his own dabba with the crew."

It's no wonder he has everybody eating out of his palm.

Salman kissed by a miss

In the coming episode of 10 Ka Dum there will be the roll over contestant Baubin Kumar's kabbadi act. Besides that there are 2 young women battling it out not only in the game but in trying to woo the host and get a piece of him.

Young Pooja Shah from Ahmedabad carried her heart on her sleeve and challenged that she was one of Salman's most honest and craziest fan ever; she surprised the star with her antics… right from going down on her knees to wearing Salman's picture on her jacket. She openly proposes to the actor and then finally got close by giving him a peck on his cheek. She sure had Salman blush and left speechless… we wonder what Katrina had to say of this!

Whilst on the other hand, Zeba Khan from Lucknow presented Salman with a beautiful picture of a religious shrine. If Pooja was loud, Zeba was shy and coy… both these women spoke their heart out to the star and made sure they had said everything they have wanted to for years to the favourite star.

It was a real treat for Sallu's fans.
