Salman to dance at IPL finale

If all goes well, Salman Khan will perform at the Indian Premier League (IPL) final, to be held at Y R Patil Stadium (Nerul) on June 1. We hear Salman will perform the music video of his upcoming reality show 10 Ka Dum live and also shake a leg to one of his filmi songs.

A source says, "The IPL tournament has been a huge hit right from the beginning. Salman's performance will be the icing on the cake."

So, will Salman perform during the break or before the match begins? "No, Sallu won't perform during the interval or before the match. Sallu's performance will be a part of the closing ceremony. It will be a rocking item," our source adds.

It is learnt that Salman has yet not rehearsed for his act during the IPL final. Right now, he is in Australia shooting for Main Aur Mrs Khanna. Our source adds, "Sallu does not need a rehearsal. He is too good. He can spontaneously start dancing at any given moment."

And what about the possibility that the unpredictable Sallu backs off at the last minute? Just a few days ago, he refused to attend a film award function simply because he didn't feel like it. "Now, that's one thing that nobody can confirm. There's no doubt that Sallu is very moody. So far, he has agreed in principle. Let's hope for the best."

Salman has already finished shooting four episodes of 10 Ka Dum, which is based on the American game show Power of 10. In true Sallu ishtyle, once he cycled all the way from Bandra to the shoot for the show at R K Studios in Chembur. A few days before that, he jogged down to Mehboob Studios for the show's rehearsals. We hear Salman even cancelled the shoot of the music video of 10 Ka Dum simply because the workers were taking time to ready the set.

Sony launches music video of 10 Ka Dum
Indiantelevision.com Team

(16 May 2008 2:30 pm)

MUMBAI: After aggressively promoting the big ticket game show 10 Ka Dum to be hosted by Salman Khan, Sony Entertainment Television (Set) is going the musical route to push it further.

The channel has launched a music video with Salman Khan shaking his legs to a specially composed hip hop number.

Rajeev Surti is the choreographer of the music video and the music has been composed by Sajid Wajid. The lyrics is written by Jalees Sherwani and Wajid has lent his voice to the song.

Music director Sajid said, "The theme of the game show is very good - about giving away lots of money to people. So we planned to do something that suited the game show and its host rather than concentrate on the ambience and technical aspects."

The promotional activity of the show is being given a complete 360 degree approach. Billboards of Salman Khan in different looks asking questions in percentages are placed on buses, bus shelters and hoardings. The second phase of the promotions will kick off between 20 - 25 May.

The six city audition for the show has already kicked off.

The promotional activity for the show has been designed to create awareness among people about this concept of playing in percentages.

Produced by Synergy Adlabs, 10 Ka Dum is an Indian version of Power of 10 and will be doling out Rs 100 million as prize money. It is expected to go on air post Indian Premier League (IPL).

Sallu's game show has an item song

The 10 Ka Dum video has Khan grooving

A game show with an item dance number? Well, why not? If cricket can have video albums and cheerleaders, why can't a game show also have one?

Sony Entertainment Television released a music video for their forthcoming game show 10 Ka Dum today. The show which promises to be a 'truly democratic game open to everybody and anybody' according to Albert Almeida, VP, Sony, will consist of 'general questions about life that surrounds each and every one of us'.

This music video was choreographed by Rajeev Surti and composed by the Mujhse Shaadi Karoge and Partner duo Sajid-Wajid. Wajid also happens to be the playback singer for the same. At the launch event, the duo even sung the rough 'pitch' version of the song which was quite entertaining.

The composers at the launch looked very much in awe and indebted to their Sallubhai. Talking about the song, Sajid said, "I never believed Salmanbhai would do a TV show. He always wanted something that would have a mass appeal and will really please him. But he was so charged up about this show. His energy really made us come up with such an energetic track."

With the fresh and ever-appealing Salman Khan, the song sounds fresh, energetic, catchy and very Bollywood. And after all, Bollywood is one thing that appeals to all of India in some way or the other. As Sajid rightly said, "We went through all international show music. But then we thought of sticking to our own style. Bollywood masala is the best."

Simple and apt, the catchy lyrics more or less explain the show. We were not surprised when the lyricist Jalees Sherwani told us, "It was so crystal clear to me. I took no time to write it. It wasn't difficult to write at all."

10 Ka Dum starts June 6 and will be aired every Friday and Saturday from 9 pm. So we have to wait for sometime to see how our 'black buck' man fares at the small screen. For now, however we have a really catchy music video starring the hunk to drool over and swing to.

Salman's 10 Ka Dum launches music video

Salman Khan is going all out to promote his upcoming television show, 10 Ka Dum, on Sony Entertainment Television.

Image

After aggressive promotion on television and hoardings, a music video has been launched. The music has been composed by Salman's favourite composers, Sajid and Wajid, who worked with the actor in Mujhse Shaadi Karoge and Partner. Wajid has also sung in the video. The lyrics have been penned by Jalees Sherwani.

Talking about the game show, Wajid says, "Salman's show is larger than life because Salmanbhai never does anything small. It will be fun and have lots of emotion. It will be a fully loaded show."

Four episodes of 10 Ka Dum have already been shot. "The way Salmanbhai is interacting with the participants is fabulous," Sajid says. "You can see that energy in the hoardings too. Have you ever seen such a hot milkman? 10 Ka Dum goes with Salman's image and we are very excited about it."

The music video will go on air today. 10 Ka Dum will premiere on television on June 6. It will be telecast every Friday and Saturday between 9 to 10 pm on Sony.

Dum struck

Kunal M Shah

Salman Khan is leaving no stone unturned for his television debut as the host of Dus Ka Dum. Now, he's doing a music video to promote the show and has roped in Sajid-Wajid to do it.

Sony TV heads and Salman wanted to do a music video for Dus Ka Dum to get the concept of the show clear in the audience's mind.

Wajid, who has now become the new voice of Salman, will be singing for the video while Jalees Sherwani has composed the lyrics.

Wajid says, "I have done the vocals and Sajidbhai has done the beat boxing (Style of voice) for the song."

The song will convey the concept of the show besides its entertainment value. Salman has included a particular line in the song which goes - 'Kya le ke aaye the, kya le ke jayoge, yahan kuchh na kuchh lekar jayoge'.

Wajid says, "The creative heads of the channel and Salmanbhai loved the song at the first sitting itself. The song 'Da dum, dus ka dum' has a lot of energy and is expected to go on air from May 15."

An excited Wajid says, "The show suits Salman's style. He asked us to make sure that we stress on the words 'Dus Ka Dum', so that it doesn't sound like 'Dus Kadam'.

That's why we have made the hook line as 'da dum, da dum, dus kaaa dum'."

10 Ka Dum Music Launch

Salman Khan is making sure that his debut as a television host makes heads turn. And to achieve this, the star is rehearsing vigorously for the show.

Dus Ka Dum is based on an American game show Power of 10 hosted by Drew Carey. The game features contestants predicting

how a cross-section of people responded to questions covering a wide variety of topics in a poll that is conducted ahead of time.

Sony TV is pitching Dus Ka Dum against Shah Rukh Khan's Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain?

Now, SRK takes a dig at Sallu

Shah Rukh is always at his best while pulling legs – be it on screen or off screen. When the star began the second schedule for Paanchvi Pass, Salman's Dus Ka Dum promos were already out. So what did SRK think about it?

"I like the promos of Salman's shows. I have not met him after watching his promos as he is shooting in 'Austrelia'. But I wish him all the luck. We all are professionals. Our main aim is to entertain our audience. He has his own fan following and I am sure he will do a good job," said the King Khan.

When the crew members where discussing about Salman's show, Shah Rukh was in his elements. He tried hard to copy Sallu's style of talking with an accent, touching his nose and also walking like a stud. No one could control their laughter after watching Shah Rukh's antics.

Salman finished shooting his first schedule last month. He has shot for four episodes and will resume work on it from June 2. In between, he is also expected to shoot for Main Aur Mrs.Khanna.

Gimme TV, not movie!

Author: Sonal Chawla Date: 19 May 2008

Sallu would rather work harder on 10 Ka Dum than his flick

Salman Khan will play an anchor twice — 10 Ka Dum on TV and on the big screen in Rumi Jaffrey's God Tussi Great Ho. But he's taken his TV job far more seriously.

Money talks

It could be the money at stake that's got Sallu all prepped up. Says a source, "Sallu has been paid a whopping amount for 10 Ka Dum and he has left no stone unturned to polish his anchoring skills.

He is seen practising with his family members, with people on his sets and everywhere else."

A source from the GTGH unit observes, "During the movie shoot, we'd see Priyanka taking anchoring tips and researching her role.

On the other hand, Salman was relaxed and would deliver his shots like any other actor, without working on his role."

Adds the source, "Salman has taken the show very seriously and wants to connect with the audience. After the growing popularity of King Khan and Big B, Salman too wants to create a mark on the small screen," adds the source.

Vodafone, Garnier to sponsor 10 Ka Dum

BS Reporter / New Delhi May 20, 2008, 4:26 IST

Sony Entertainment Television, now Multi Screen Media, has signed up a handful of sponsors for 10 Ka Dum, the game show that will be hosted by superstar Salman Khan. The sponsors of the show, to be launched on June 6, include Vodafone, Garnier, LG and P&G (for Gillette).

"We will announce a few more sponsors in the coming week," said Rohit Gupta, president, network sales at Sony.

The broadcaster is all set to market its new property in a major way. It released a music video featuring Salman Khan recently. Without divulging the size of the marketing budget, Sony's Executive Vice-President and business head Albert Almeida said: "We will swamp the media with the show's promos." Almeida's confidence in the show stems from two things: one, Salman Khan is appearing as a small-screen host for the first time. "He has an unpredictable way of posing questions," he said. Two, 10 Ka Dum or Power of 10 is a universal show: it is not knowledge-based. "It is mass, popular and democratic. Anybody can play as the questions are related to everyday life," said Almeida.

The concept of the show is simple. The contestants are expected to "think" like the rest of India. For instance, the contestant will be asked a question which has already been pre-polled to the nation. The answer to the posed question will be the average percentage of a mass opinion poll that's been conducted across India. If the contestant guesses the correct answer in accordance with the collective opinion of India, he would start winning.

The game starts with two players, who play off against each other and then the winner gets to answer the questions, leading up to the Rs 10 crore prize. "There is no life line but participants can bring a companion and ask his opinion or even take an audience poll," said Almeida.

10 ka Dum game show is based on an American show called Power of 10 hosted by Drew Carey.

People think I'm moody and cynical: Salman Khan

IANS
Thursday, May 22, 2008 19:35 IST

NEW DELHI: Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who is to anchor Sony TV's new reality game show "Dus Ka Dum", has turned a blogger and writes in his first entry that he takes all his decisions on instincts rather than calculations.

"All my decisions are based on my instincts and some people think that I am too moody and cynical," Salman writes in his blog.

"Believe me, I have been guided by my instincts and my heart all my life! I do not depend too much on intelligence, analysis and calculations."

Salman, who has often been in the news for wrong reasons, says that earlier he had his own reservations about anchoring a show.

"I still remember the day when my brother Sohail Khan brought the proposal to anchor a show for Sony Entertainment Television. I had my reservations. The idea sounded so impractical that I rejected it even without giving it much thought," he wrote.

But then what attracted him to "Dus Ka Dum"?

"There is no false shame and sense of humiliation on the show if your answer is wrong. Sample survey has determined the exact answers in form of percentage and the one who answers nearest to the exact answer is the winner. This game is simple. It is a game of guessing."

"Dus Ka Dum" is a game inspired by the US game show "Power of 10", in which the contestant who predicts most accurately how the public would respond to poll questions walks away with millions.

The show begins on Sony Entertainment Television June 6.

With Salman packing in the punch for '10 ka Dum', SET plans big for new game show

May 20, 08
Tasneem Limbdiwala

Dialogue
Brand Speak

After the silver screen, the Khan show now shifts to the small screen. While Shah Rukh Khan is finding out 'Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain', Salman Khan will be hosting a new game show, '10 Ka Dum', on Sony Entertainment Television. With a prize money of Rs 10 crore, Sony is sparing no efforts to aggressively market the new show.

Like 'Paanchvi Pass', '10 Ka Dum' has been adapted from an American reality show 'Power of 10'. '10 Ka Dum', which premieres on June 6, will be aired on Fridays and Saturdays at 9 pm. The show has been produced by Synergy Adlabs Media Ltd.

Explaining the show's concept, Albert Almeida, Executive VP & Business Head, SET (Multi Screen Media), said, "The new property is an interesting, fun, popular and democratic show. It is not based on knowledge, it is not a quiz and, therefore, has a universal appeal. The questions that are posed to a participant are based on every day relatable issues. Thus, the questions elicit an opinion, response or a discussion, which is what makes it interesting – whether you are the host or a contestant or part of the audience or a viewer watching at home. The questions are very real and are related to issues concerning people like you and me."

What differentiates '10 Ka Dum' from the host of reality-based shows? Almeida replied, "No person knows what the real answer is. It is based on an opinion poll. The questions have been taken and polled to a stratified random sample across India. The poll has been pre-conducted by research agency Ipsos Indica on our behalf. So, typically when a question is pitched to a player, there is an answer that is pre-polled and is not known to anybody. Thus, it is a game that is based on a very intelligent guess. Typically, you will put yourself in the shoes of the nation and come out with an intelligent guess. There are five steps that will take one to winning Rs 10 crore."

The show is scheduled for 30 episodes, extending for a period of 15 weeks. Commenting on the marketing strategy, Almeida said, "It's a huge and a mass show and thus, has a mass icon to anchor it. The plan is to take it to the masses of the country. It is a combination of our own network, and currently we have the DLF IPL T20 Tournament on our network, which is huge both in its reach and the number of people viewing the matches. Therefore, we have used the IPL aggressively to create awareness for the show via television promos."

This apart, outdoor hoardings have been put up at strategic places. The channel has also embarked on a road show throughout the country. The activity van is travelling across the country which has a stimulation of the game to enable people to familiarise themselves with the game. Radio is also being used extensively. While Big FM is the main radio partner, SET has tied up with other FM players as well as part of its marketing plans for the show.

Almeida confirmed that four sponsors had already come on board for '10 Ka Dum' – Garnier, Vodafone, Gillette and LG. Some more sponsors are yet to be confirmed.

SET has already completed the first phase of marketing, where it talked about the whole concept of percentages that formed the show's format. The channel has now embarked on the second leg of marketing, which involves educating people about the game and trying to give a flavour of the reality show.

Commenting on celebrities being roped in to anchor such properties and how they helped in impacting the channel buzz, Almeida said, "Celebrities on their own mean little. They may create an initial buzz and attraction for the show, but unless the celebrity works very instinctively for the show and the concept, it is not going to get you consistent returns."

While Almeida refused to divulge details about the marketing spend for the show, he said that it was an aggressive campaign and an adequate amount was being spent to create the buzz around it.

As for expectations from '10 Ka Dum', Almeida is confident that the show will turn out to be a winner, and a big one at that.
